Three Problems with Xperia S. Anyone Else?

Three Problems with Xperia S. Anyone Else?

I just bought my Xperia S last week for my birthday and I must say it is a gorgeous phone.

However, I'm having three problems that I'm experiencing as of the moment.

I was just wondering if anybody else is also having these?

1.) The cancel, home, and menu buttons are unresponsive. More often than not, I have to press the buttons 2-3 times to get it right.

2.) The phone keeps on restarting randomly! This used to happen when I only charge it but even when it's on standby, it restarts (you know, the Sony and Xperia blank screen). Also, when it restarts, the power immediately gets cut off by 5%. For example, my battery life is 95%, then it randomly restarts. When it comes back, the battery becomes 90% immediately! It's really unpleasant.

3.) The battery life. I know smartphones are really power hungry, but I think my unit is just going crazy. For example, I charge it to 100% then in one hour on standby (no Wifi, no GPS, no 3G, no autosync) the battery has gone to 94%.

I've already upgraded to ICS and I still have the three problems.

I read somewhere that upgrading your firmware should do the trick, but I do not know how. I have installed PCC on my laptop and it says that I have the latest software version already.

I have already tried repairing it with PCC but there are still no good changes.

Android version: 4.0.4

Build number: 6.1.A.0.452

Is there anyway to solve this before I should run to the Sony Centre?

Thank you.

Yes I'm experiencing the same issues since update to Android 4.0.4 build 6.1.A.0.452.

I already tried doing a software repair with a full data wipe with no success and I think Sony is already working on an update that will fix these issues.

For battery life, I recommend that you use green power or similar power having apps, it helps a lot.

For 1, you can try this mod I did:

Unfortunately, you'll need to unlock your bootloader and root your phone. But believe me, it's awesome to have responsive buttons again!

you have to make sure that you touch the little dot, but yeah capacitive buttons arent as responsive (they should be)

2) constant restarts could be

a) an app acting up like a taskiller or antivirus

or

b) the SIM card, yes the SIM card, if you cut it then that could be the issue.

3) charge your phone 100% > use it as you normally would > once it gets to 10% settings > battery > take screenshots of this list and the battery graph, also tap on each item on the list and copy all the info, it might be an app yet again acting up like a battery app, ram, antivirus or taskiller

Thank you everyone.

I will try all those suggestions. The battery seems to have improved slightly.

Anyway, the phone has been restarting non stop tonight!

I used a regular sim and had it cut at a phone shop because the network providers in my country do not have any official micro sim cards yet.

I tried opening the back cover in order to wiggle and meddle with the sim card and the phone dis not restart. The sim card seems to fit perfectly.

I have used repair phone and cleared all apps and it is still like this.

Help please?

Does your restart happen on certain areas? Like say if you are somewhere else, does it occur? In my case, my phone works fine if I am NOT at home, like in the office or somewhere else.  But when I get home, it restarts.

My home area usually toggles between 2G/3G signals from the carrier.  But it should not be a problem since it was fine before running on ICS already for a month before the problem occured.  And it occurs at certain times of the day, not all the times.

Try to install Reboot Logger from PLAY Store so you can see how often it restarts, and will log and monitor the restarts even when you are sleeping.  It helped me build up my case when I submitted my phone to the service center.

I even have videos of it restarting with no other apps running. Even when I booted the phone in SAFE mode (meaning it runs on the most basic of services required to have the phone up and running), it is rebooting.

Omirus,

Now that you've mentioned it, I do notice that the reboots usually happen when I am at home! I live on top of a condominium. 45th floor to be exact. I don't know if that has any significance.

Were you able to find a solution to this problem?

Ugh there's still no official response from Eony regarding this problem!
