Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with Sony Style Cover Window SCR26

I am using the above phone with the specified cover. I also use the Style Cover widget in the lock screen. Since updating my phone, the Style Cover widget has displayed '13 deg C // Mostly cloudy' and 'Received messages // 15 received messages'. The weather information is as normal. However, I have not in fact received any messages. I have even manually opened, scrolled through and closed every single SMS conversation on my phone from the Messaging app, yet the 'Received messages' notification will not disappear. When the Cover is open and the phone unlocked, there is no 'Received messages' notification shown in the status bar nor in the notification panel. There is also no function in the Messaging app to display only unread messages, so there is no way for me to check which are these 15 apparently unread messages.

If it is relevant, I just updated the software on my phone last night. I am not sure to what software version etc - I simply followed the instructions from my phone and computer. It is a D5803, Android 4.4.4. I bought it just 2 weeks ago from Amazon.

Please advise me on how I can get the Style Cover widget to stop displaying 'Received messages' when there are in fact none.

Have you restarted your phone and checked again? Do that first.

Yes, restarted twice, once with the power button and one with the 'OFF' button next to the nano SIM slot. Have also removed and then re-inserted the Style Cover widget but same result.

Settings > apps > all > smartconnect > clear data > restart your phone

Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem still persists. Any other ideas (preferably not involving factory reset)?

Same suggestion as above but clear the messaging app, also how many messaging apps do you have?

By that do you mean delete all the messages? Is there a reliable way to back them up first?

In addition to the standard SMS Messaging app that comes installed with the phone, I have WhatsApp, LINE, WeChat etc - but no other apps that deal with SMS.

I wonder if the issue is one of those apps

Any solution to this problem? My Style Cover also constantly shows "Received message" when there is none. (If I have received one, it says "2 messages"...) Not a big problem of course but it irritates me...

I have tried the ordinary measures, like restarting, reinstalling, deleting cache in the relevant apps, and so on. Any other suggestions would be helpful!
