sony xperia z1 wifi restiction

i had to updates today when i tried to download the updates i was told they could only be done via wifi why is this as i have unlimited 4g on my contract when i looked in settings i am unable to turn off download via wifi only i never had this problem with samsung galaxy s4 witrh that i could just choose how i wanted to download (what if i had no other way of downloading (no wifi)    anyone any ideas cheers mark

Is the update you are referring to for the firmware or for a third party application from the Playstore?
