sony Xperia z1 compact ruined after lollipop upgrade

What's happened? Loved my phone when it was on kitkat. Now it's slow, sluggish and errors popping up. Eg Xperia home closing. Camera slow to start and photos taking forever to save. Apps take ages to start up. What's gone wrong Sony? Any fixes? How do I get my phone running smoothly because at the moment, I wish you hadn't released lollipop update!

Try repairing your phone with Sony PC Companion

Sony PC Companion.

As Phy said, all these problems will vanish if you do a clean installation, that can be done via PC Companion Phone repair.

Quite.  Just did a full reset on mine (from the menu) followed by a restore; which hasn't restored anything useful.  And it's still heating up and has used 10% of battery in about ten minutes.  Makes the phone unusable.  Shame, I was very happy with it.  No chance of another Sony phone then.

And people suggest using PC companion to do firmware updates?  It can't even do a simple backup and restore without crashing repeatedly and causing the phone to reboot.

I'm not happy.

Dom.

Hi all. Thanks for replies.
I did a factory reset. All good after. Still crashes every now and again but nothing as bad as it was.

Yes, PC Companion is far way better solution than factory reset, because it formats your internal memory and installs a clean copy of latest firmware. While the reset from settings menu will not format, there's a big possibility that issues will stay the same. I'd suggest that you do a PC Companion phone repair:

Open PC companion -> Support zone -> Phone/tablet software update -> Repair my phone/tablet (blue link style). Follow the steps given, do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.

@smiffie71

Just update with Pcc as suggested, three times already, if pcc crashes then try a different computer
