Sony Xperia T does not power on (most likely after low battery)

Hi there,

I have the same issue as these people here:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/56467

- Sony Xperia T

- About 1/2 months old

- Probably ran out of battery

- Next day it doesn't power on

Tried charging it with several cables, outleds (which are working on other phones) with and without sim/sd cards. Also tried power on without connecting it to power or usb to pc. What happens i just a red light flashing when trying to power it on (with power button). A steady red light when connected to power cable and tring to power it on (with power button). Tried the reset combination volume up and power button for 10 seconds with and without sd/sim card with and without power cable connected. All no go. Called provider. They will service the unit. I think it has something to do with the battery values in the firmware. And thus preventing it to power on for safety precautions of the lithium battery. Now I know it got a firmware update already. I just don't know if this includes a change to prevent these battery issues. Any idea if this unit has an update in regards to these battery/power on issues or if it will in the future? I want to prevent the same issue from happening again you know Winking_Face

Cheers,

Marc

If your phone is doing this either call Sony  +1-877-7XPERIA (1-877-797-3742) and explain what is going on. You're going to need the info from the pull-out tab found in the SIM/SD bay. It will take a few weeks and some Shipping money. OR your provider will probably replace it for free if you can get it to fail infront of them. (PROTIP: Let it die while using it and do not plug it in for a while)

Your phone will very likely get worse until it fails completely. My experiance is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43383759#post43383759

Your phone SHOULD charge like everyother phone. If it is acting funny get it replaced ASAP

My phone is doing the same and its now beyond a joke! I would sent it away for "repair" but there are some photos on my phone i want copies of first so i will need to try and get it to work first.

As for the Sony repair software i have been told not to use it by the repair centre as it has a tendancy to "brick" phones!

Even though apple products dont inspire me anymore i am going back to them when i can get shot of this POS. If i have a problem with an apple product i simply take it into an apple store and get given a new one no questions asked if its in the warranty period, none of this sending phones away to be repaired nonsense and being with out a phone for a few weeks. I wouldnt care but there are at least 2 sony centres close by to me but i doubt it get service like that out of them!

I had this problem.  I found I could get the phone to turn on and start charging again if you:

1.  Connect it to the power supply

2.  Press and hold the power on button

3.  Keep holding it while the orange light is flashing.....  maybe for as long as five minutes

4.  Eventually the phone will switch on and then charge of its own accord

It seems like the phone refuses to charge when it gets in this state UNLESS you press the power button and the orange light flashes.  It seems that this allows it to get enough juice to eventually reboot it...

However I reckon if it won't flash orange then you're probably goosed.  Also the phone is very fussy about what chargers it works with - have found it to be exceptionally slow to charge using a car charger; it seems to work best if ON - if OFF it actually seems to lose charge!

Always thought non replaceable batteries were a bad idea....

I've got the same problem this morning. I let the phone on charge after running very low on battery but it didn't charge at all.

I tried like baronmax above and it worked. Keeping the "power" button on (red light steady lit) seems to "force" the charge without booting the phone. As soon as it got enough power it booted and charged. (about 5 minutes too with the button pressed)

Read my above post if you have not. Yes this "fixes" the issue, but this is only temporary. You phone will likely continue to malfunction until it fails. My replacement TL behaves normally, it charges just fine off or on, with a car charger or computer or wall.

Thanks GPGon that's interesting...  I usually don't have any problem - it's only if the phone goes completely flat that I've had to do this (probably less than 3 times in 6 months)  - the phone will charge when off if this hasn't happened and I haven't seen any sign of it getting worse.  As such it hasn't bothered me particularly as I normally charge overnight in any case.

That said I completely agree that it isn't normal behaviour and it probably is a good idea to get it changed under warranty (particularly whilst in warranty and particularly if Sony have recognised this as being a problem).  Mind you your problem sounds a little different (the need for 12 hour charging and touchscreen unresponsive etc)

Either way if someone is reading this and is stuck because of not having a phone then the method I suggested might get them out of a hole!

Glad its otherwise working O.K. I hit zero battery a lot, mostly because it would report 15% life but it was more like at 2%. I ran it dead almost every day for many weeks. So you might be able to stave off it dying by being diligent about keeping it charged. Best of luck!

My phone has done this as well. Tried the fixes, nothing. This is beyond frustrating. I was desperate to love this phone, simply because it is not a samsung or an iPhone. Sadly, it seems that those two dominate the market because companies like Sony are just second rate. Continuing to sell a phone with a known serious technical error is simply inexcusable.

I'm off to pick up a second hand samsung or iphone so I can talk to my friends again. Thanks for nothing, Sony. Useless.
