Greetings,
On my new xperia Z the sony walkman app has an issue. Roughly once in every song it just stops, app closes. No other issue follows and I can simply restart it. All in all not a disaster but you can imagine it's irritating if you listen to about two hours of music every day.
Thoughts/idea's?
ps, it was updated to the latest firmware yesterday but no solution.
Did you back up the phone before the update, you could try reverting it to the previous firm ware version and then re-applying the update to make sure that the issue isn't related to something in the new firmware version.
You could also try resetting the phone to see if the issue resolves itself with a fresh start.
Repairing it using PC companion or SUS could be an option.
I haven't heard of this issue yet so it may be a new problem spurd by the new firmware version which still many countries are yet to recieve hence why the present issue may not be well known.
Thanks for the answer Entelexia.
The above things have been tried but to no solution. Exept for reverting to the previous firmware but the issue was both before and after the update.
ahh I see, I haven't seen anyone else have this particular issue so I was assuming it had appeared with the new firmware update. You have tried repairing the software using the PC Companion or SUS and it didn't solve the issue?.....that is a tough one. Last resort would be a factory reset or hard reset that would wipe everything, bit extreme but that's the only thing that could help in my knowledge.
Perhaps wait and see if any other users have encountered the same issue and came up with a solution before resorting to a hard reset
(Have you got any 3rd party apps that you use with the walkman app such as speaker boost or some form of mp3 tag app that could be interfering with your music?)
I'll give it a few days indeed 😉
To answer your last question; No, I've decided to keep this phone as clean and basic Sony/android as I can. So yes I have some 3d party apps but nothing remotely close to music, sound or video.
Then im beat lol, sorry I couldn't help you further. Hopefully other users will comment on possible fixes for you soon.
a couple of questions with suggestions
first it sounds like possibly another application could be accessing or monitoring the status or the memory and is interupting the media stream to the player - just a possibility
Have you any 3rd party apps installed - if so can you list them (not games) more like ustilities and phone management software - uninstall them - also uninstall any antivirus programs they are not needed and have been known to cause issues
Turn off all syncing
Turn off all wireless and data
is the music on internal memory or external - if the latter copy some files to internal (music floder) and remove SD card and see if problem remains - but before testing and after removing SD do the following - go into settings apps, all apps - find walkman and delete cache and any data
(unmount SD card before removal)
ok you are now ready to test using internal memory
reboot the phone - it should rescan and will find the files you copied to internal memory music folder and see if problem has gone
let us know
This can also happen if there is a corrupt or incompatible audio file on the storage that the media player is accessing. Have you noticed this happening when it is trying to play any specific files or folders?

GeoffH; I deleted all music files and completely formatted the SD card. This evening I will upload fresh music files to the internal memory after stopping the player and cleaning the cache. Will report the result.
As response to the "corrupt or incompatible file idea"; I understand why that could be the issue. Yesterday however I noticed that the FM player has the same issue, every 5 minutes or so it simply stops.
Thought that maybe the issue was the connexion between earplugs and phone somehow. Because if you pull the plugs when playing audio it does indeed stop the player or radio. (An actual feature of the apps to avoid a concert in the middle of a room) Only when I play a game with sound for instance you would think the problem would cause the phone to switch from earplug sound to speaker every so often and it does not...
Does watching a youtube video or playing a game trigger the same reaction with the speaker?
