Sony SmartTags

Dear Xperia fans,

I want to order SmartTags with my Z1 but before I order it, I would like to have some advice.

Sony has 3 sorts of SmartTags:

SmartTags NT3

Xperia SmartTags NT2

Xperia SmartTags

What is the difference between these and which one is most suitable for the Z1? What is your experience with the SmartTags?

SmartTags NT3 are the most suitable one for Z1 because these tags has been specially designed for Z1 i recomend you to go for Smart Tags NT3 http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/smarttags-nt3/. if this helps give me some kudos

They are practically the same.

First generation offered 4 tags (red, black, white and blue), so basically you had 4 types of "commands" that can "touch" the phone with.
But if you want 5th tag, there is a problem - because 2 red tags are identical, 2 black are, and so on. So NT2 tags give you 4 more, new "commands".

The same goes to the NT3, only another 4 unique tags that phone can recognize. Just newer set of tags need newer version of Smart Connect to recognize predefined set of actions on each one. And new design of course.

Plus, with the new Smart Connect and NT3 are kind of "programmable", so using NT3 tags you can actually share some on-line content (assigned to them) with other people having NFC phones.

So for Z1 you can have all 3 sets at once and each one will be recognized as unique.

But all of them can be rewritten by NFC Editor. I've tried to program mine black to blue and it worked fine. Then I reverted it back to red Slightly_smiling_Face

It's only a matter of searching the net for original NT message that should be stored inside the tag.

True, but only certain messages are being recognized by Smart Connect as actual smart tags, and there are limited set of them. Plus only original tag message can trigger predefined/themed (in SC) set of actions.

1) True - only NT/NT2/NT3 tags are recognized by Smart Connect

2) Are you sure? I thought that since 4.1.2 I could customise their set of actions. Will check on Z1 today with a black one.

What I meant is if you program a tag, let's say black one, with a custom message, it won't be detected as a black tag anymore, but it still can trigger actions via Smart Connect. On the other hand - if you write a black tag's message into non-NT device, this "not-really-a-tag" should be recognized as the black NT tag. (at least as far as I know it works this way)

Just checked it in practice. Black one is recognized as 'Bedroom'. But I can change name, picture and a list of actions on enter and on exit.

On the other hand you can buy any 1k, RW Mifare NFC and write smarttag message into it. Less convinient, a bit dirty but working solution.
