Sony PC Companion Not Working

Sony PC Companion Not Working

After connecting my phone (with the correct USB cable) to my laptop, a little box comes up in the bottom right corner of screen stating that 'My Sony Xperia U is connected.' It also makes the noise when you connect a USB. After clicking on the link to 'launch Sony PC Companion.' Sony PC Companion then tells me that my phone isn't connected!

Clicked on how to connect - follow the steps - nothing. Switch phone off and on  - try the steps - nothing. I have even tried using another USB cable from another sony experia phone (xperia T) and still no joy.

I have uninstalled Sony PC Companion and then reinstalled onto PC and tried connecting again and still no change. Although now the box that flashes up on bottom right says 'My (nul) is connected.'

I checked my phone for updates and it has the latest updates.

Please help!

Unfortunately the device has not installed correctly, to solve the issue, open Device Manager on your computer to reinstall the driver for your device while your device is connected with your PC via a USB cable.

To open Device manager on your computer

Click on the Start button.
In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter.

To open Device manager on your computer

On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.

To reinstall the drivers for your device

Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer.

Hi thank you for your response.

I

have followed the steps and couldn't find 'MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device.' I did find something referring to 'sony erricson' so uninstalled that. Can't remember what it was called in full. May have been for another phone I had before this xperia. Nothing has happened now. None of the drivers have been installed and I still can't access my phone via 'computer.'

The remaining devices under 'USB Contollers' include 'HUAWEI Mobile connect - Bus enumerate device' is this the one to uninstall? All the others in the list appear to be no relation to my xperia.

Many thanks

Before uninstalling any other hardware, do you have any software installed on your PC for use with another brand of phone or MP3 Player?
