SI numbers, release dates, PDK, Approvals Jelly Bean To Sony Moderators & Community Manager(s)

To Sony Moderators and Community Manager(s)

There are multiple threads and posts with the same questions and this will NOT going to stop until Sony release a full official statement on this,

  1. What does "We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases"? will this fix the bugs?
  2. Who is in charge of approving the SIM Free updates per country?
  3. Who approve last Sony or a Carrier in the case that it's locked to a carrier?
  4. Did Sony received a Jelly Bean PDK?
  5. Will Sony fulfill or break the "AT LEAST" 18months software updates commitment/agreement at Google I/O 2011?
  6. How come the 2012 Xperias with the same or lower hardware specs, compared to the 2011 Xperias, run ICS smooth w/o all the 2011 lag/crashing issues?
  7. On the same subject as 5. Is sony going to fix all this issues and release an update to the 2011 Xperias w/o bugs?
  8. On the subject as 4. Will the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo and Pro will no longer be supported at the end of August? as it will be 18months since they were released
  9. Will the Current Xperia S be overclocked like the Xperia SL as this "new" xperia S will have the same hardware as the current Xperia S just overclocked CPU?
  10. Will Sony improve the Camera/Picture/Video quality? is this a hardware or software limitation? there are some users experiencing focus issues with the Xperia S, is this a hardware issue that must be recalled?

Yes, it might be Complex, yes it might be hard to answer but if Sony Developer were able to post a thread on how we get an update starting from the source code to the final product (just before approvals) I think this can be done, it'll be like a second part to From Source Code to upgrade release.

Also if you have another question feel free to post it and I'll add it to this top of this thread, try to make general questions not specific (i.e. when is my SI number will be approved/posted/etc, instead something like,  who can we contact to find out if our carrier it's going to release or not the update?)

Sony, we are all waiting for a stable firmware too in addition to the ICS release. Many users are in problems due to a faulty firmware .162. Please test before release. Arnab.

arnabghosal1989 You would think, by how much time they have had so far, they would have a perfect release of ICS by now, What if I was to tell you, Sony was planning to ditch the ICS update, and we are all going to stay with GB,

I would rather have the update with all its problems, by now! anyway! and Id rather wait for a follow up from sony, to update it again, right now id be glad to even see the ICS update from sony on my phone, I have been waiting half a year, almost, for this thing, you don't know how frustrating it is to have been told, its going to be out by this date, and its not, then to be told again, this date, and its not, then to be told nothing, now jelly bean is out, and it has been out for some time now, this is torcher! Angry_Face it's the reason I signed up to this forum! to gain some information, little did i know, the forum knows nothing,

Think about it my way, if its on the phone, that means they have to fix all the problems, if its not on the phone, then they don't have to even think about putting it on the phone, they could tell us all today, we are not releasing ICS for the 2011 phones, That will be the date I ask for a refund, Or a other phone with ICS, as I was promised an update

Well is clear by now that Sony Devs are not good at all.

Sony you should fire them all and get some real good ones out of XDA.

By the way, someone working with them should tell them about this problems.

Sony must release a Jellybean update with all problems solved, is not that Hard.

Greets.

About Jelly Bean, people stop cribbing about it! Although JB has released it is only for the devices dear to google. As for Sony giving JB, i have full faith in them that they would provide everyone with this update! JB's source code is still to be given out as open source! I would say it will still take about atleast 4 months for this update to be out! And the developers at Sony are doing a fantastic job. Just love the Timescape UI. Winking_Face

There's something called PDK announced by Google according to which the Source Code is given to the Device Maufacturers a few months before it is made an Open Source, enabling the firms to deliver the updates almost at the same time it is made a Open Source.

Jellybean update should be given to all 2011 Xperia Devices, as the devices will be able to handle the OS easily. But Sony might just give updates on ICS, fixing the bugs, and might refrain from giving an OS update. Or at best, the 2011 devices might get an low-on-features update, as compared to the 2012 devices.

An official resposne as demanded by the OP, need not be possible to give at this point of time, as lots of things need to be considered, before an Android Update is pushed for a device.

Thanks,

Rick

Will the Current Xperia S be overclocked like the Xperia SL as this "new" xperia S will have the same hardware as the current Xperia S just overclocked CPU?

What do you mean? O.o.

What do you mean by "just overclocked CPU"?

The Xperia SL is not yet announced and it's a rumor that it wil run the same chipset clocked at a higher frequency. That is Xperia SL will be to Xperia S what Xperia Arc S was to Xperia Arc.

There are three types of S3 Processors, each of which can be clocked between 1.2 GHz and 1.7 GHz.

APQ8060

MSM8260

MSM8660

You do not know which one Sony might choose to put in the SL, if at all they choose from amongst the three.

Then, assuming that Sony chooses the same chipset as the Xperia S, that is, the MSM8260 chipset, it need not be just a Software implementation that will give it the higher clock speed.

Thanks,

Rick

I think Aimee forgot that the android update alliance is to address fragmentation not just minor updates or patches

Re: Are we going to have the jeely bean update ?

Hi,

18 months of updates does not necessarily refer to Android version updates. This also includes performance enhancing updates on the Android version the handset is already running on.

Our developers will test the handsets on the new versions of Android which Google release and confirm whether the user experience is stable enough to provide an update.

Until we have confirmation regarding this, we would be unable to confirm which units will be able to run this version.

Re: The real reason X8, x10 mini/pro, w8 won't get an update?

The official statement does mention the RAM but it also mentions the following reason:

The upgrade of XperiaTM X10 also was made possible due to that we had a code base that mostly could be reused. For the mini’s, who have a different user interface, this possibility did not exist.

I am only able to provide you with the same information I have been provided with myself.

BUT the fact is that Android doesn't have a minimum hardware requirement. I've been waiting for you or someone from Sony to reply to that thread and still no answer.
