thanks , will this let me use any network sim in my phone? i was lead to believe it could only be done with the unlock codes they send when you put another sim in the phone?

Yes, using the network unlocking code is the safest and least troublesome way (no loss of data or need to re-install the software) to unlock your phone. These codes are usually held by the network that the phone is locked into, so you need to contact them.

if you debrand your phone, you can use your phone on any network

Not true.Debranding does not remove the network lock, so you'll still need the unlocking code to permanently unlock the phone, or have it unlocked by cable/patch, which isn't permanent as the phone will again become network-locked following a software update/reset.

maybe with other platforms, but with android you can, or my phones are a special case, because I've been able to debrand w/o unlocking my phones

thanks for your help.i agree with what you say with the unlocking via codes.but my original question also was that the company trying to gret the codes for me says the sony website is down,i cannot believe its been down for 6 weeks,do you know if this is fact or a story please.

Yes, the SE website has been undergoing maintenance for the last few weeks and many areas have been affected, including this forum from time to time.Have you tried contacting the network into which your phone is locked into, directly? As I have found previously, requesting the unlocking codes from the network is best done over the phone and the codes are then sent by email. The manufacturer doesn't usually, as far as I know, hold these codes because it's the network that code-locks them in the first place. However, if your case is different, as per the arrangement with your company, you can always contact SE yourself.Let me know what happens.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900020 Thanks for your reply, but I was including android phones, as you can see from this xda forum thread which uses the X10 as an example.
