I bought my ELM a couple of days back. I have active my GPRS services to use internet using my laptop too.
Finally after experimenting with the device while connecting internet via laptop. I have experienced weird situation.
The device when connected using Bluetooth make no problem connecting to the internet using my laptop. But when connected using the USB cable it sometimes do get connected but most of the time it keep on trying dialing the connection and finally fails. It is also experienced that even the device gets disconnected from the PC suite automatically. Very weird off course. Now I have experimented using my desktop too. And sorry to say the situation remain the same.
Just to make people understand the situation better I am giving approximate numerical figures.
Connecting using Bluetooth
Unsuccessful in connecting 5%
Successfully connected 95 %
Able to use the net 90 %
Getting disconnected in between use 5 %
Connecting using USB Cable
Unsuccessful in connecting 70 %
Successfully connected 30 %
Able to use the net 10 %
Getting disconnected in between use 80 %
From the above data it is pretty evident that there is definitely some problem with USB connection. But having said that I must also admit, there was 100 % success in data transfer from PC to mobile using PC suite. So there is no problem in normal USB cable use. But the cable starts to behave very abnormally when tried to connect to the internet.
So I would like to conclude by saying it’s a very wired software problem. That Sony must try to address to.
Hope in the next software update for the device will rectify the problem. I am impatiently waiting to download the next software update for the new SONY ELM.
