sd card content does not sync over USB

Whenever I connect the phone via USB, the SD card contents (both internal and external) are showing old(er) data, not the one which is actually present on the phone.

Example:

I'm using expense manager software to track expenses. The export file generated by the app is export.csv. I generate such a file each month. After the generation, if I go to the sd card by ES file explorer, it will show that it was generated today, and the content matches the last changes.

If I connect the phone through USB and browse to the same file, it will show the date 1 month ago. The content is also from one month ago.

Either I'm very stupid, or this is a serious problem with the phone.

Any ideas what to do?

The only thing which helps is to restart the phone after generating the file. But that's stupid.

Restarting your phone results in a refresh so like my phone I open my file explorer - In my case Astro and select refresh which updates files that I've added and or deleted and even created

but restart should not be the solution.

my old xperia mini pro did not have the same fault.

I'm on 4.3 now, but behaviour was same on 4.1.2

What if you change the USB connection mode under settings > Xperia connectivity > USB connectivity > USB connection mode > change to mass storage mode - MSC. Does the content on the SD card show the latest file in MSC mode?
