Actually it should not even touch the SD card at all, did you try to read the SD card from a card reader on PC?
Just try it from the PC, there's a big probability that the file system on your SD card is broken. You stated that it has been working for years so may be your mobile is unable to read it because of a file system error.
Hi abbieb, I suggest removing and re-inserting the SD card and just double checking the SD card to see whether anything appears then. If it doesn't show anything still, that is quite strange as Quester mentioned - it shouldn't touch the SD card.
We sincerely apologize for the situation, in the future I reccommend backing up the phone just in case.
Hi, well I've plugged the phone into a PC and as I thought the entire card has been wiped. Everything gone - in an instant. It's all very well advising me to back up my phone now....... but it's not very helpful considering I have lost YEARS of information. The first update to Lollipop was at utter disaster, and this latest update has made me feel sick. Such a huge loss to me. I just don't know if I can carry on with the Android system anymore. Too much damage has now been done.
I'm sorry to hear that. As previous posters have said, the update shouldn't touch the SD card at all. I know there are several softwares out there to restore deleted files on memory cards and hard drives - you might want to look in to that.
This happened to us yesterday. A new Xperia Aqua wiped everything on the SD card, apps - fair enough I can get those back - but photos, unforgivable. The update message said user data wouldn't be touched. Sony just lost a customer.
