screen going off during a call.. xperia z

Just a little annoying niggle , does anyone else have the same problem as me, during a call and when the screen goes off the phone locks you can't open it by just touching the screen you have to use the power button then unlock the screen, am running Android 4.4.4 is this normal.

Does your phone has a protective case or film?

No it doesn't.

Tho I put it in and out of my leather book case (phone case)

Is it blocking or partially blocking the proximity sensor?

Absolutely not no not at all the clamps of the case just reach the outer bezel of the phone.
