Rooting and updating

I would like to manually upgrade my SP with a compatible  firmware ( i m in the UK, is the Australian one ok??) 

i would like to know if 

1. Do i have to root my Mobile in order to manually upgrade it?
2. After the upgrade is it going to be a problem to come back to normal and install the proper UK one when released?

I really want to use 4G since i use my SP as an hotspot to have an internet connection at home.

also you can search Xda developers

i think it dont need root..just unlock boot loader

but i know you can revert back to orginal firmware when update unleashe in your region and use official one

You don't need to unlock the bootloader if you flash an offical ROM.
