can i root my xperia s, back up the rom, then unroot and update to ics and see if the ui is laggy and slow besides having issues with it, and if it actualy is laggy and slow root again and go back to gb via the backup i did?
if the update it's available yes it will update your phone to ICS
but i dont want that, thats why i want to use cwm recovery and i cant get that unless i root right?

you skipped 4) not all firmwares have the same preloaded apps, for the most part they can be uninstalled, or DISABLE (w/o rooting)
5) the fb app it's up to fb to update it not Sony
6) that's not quite true, that's on how you use your phone, I've seen this a lot and then the issue were apps.
you might be lucky but i want a backup incase any thing happens can it be restored from ics via cwm or something else?
