I have been a user of the SE Xperia PLAY for well over two years. I have had the chance to use a GS4 and an HTC One as possible upgrades for my PLAY. And to be honest I ended up getting another Xperia PLAY and have been very happy, and have absolutely ZERO regrets. Yes its very old hardware but I love the game controls.
I would like Sony to conisder either supporting 2011 devices like the Xperia PLAY or at least releasing sources for the PLAY and other 2011 devices and let the XDA and other dev communities do the work of updating our beloved Xperia PLAY and other Xperia 2011 devices to KitKat as Google has made it quite clear that all phones with 512mb of ram and up will run KitKat smoothly.
Please Sony at least release the sources for our devices. You support the Dev community like no other manufacturer and this would just go one big step further in cementing users to your products if they know that you support your devices either officially or unofficially through the dev/modding community.
I have posted a thread over at XDA Xperia PLAY requesting all users to come to this post and voice their desire to see continued support either through official update or source releases.

Thank you Sony for making the Xperia PLAY, the best phone I have ever had, even with its age. I have no plans of letting it go... seriously.
Sony Mobile Team, please support this cause and release the sources and let the developers at xda work on the future development of Xperia play and other Xperia 2011 series phones. :smileysmileythumbsup:
C'mon Sony.... We know you listen to the Feedback of your Customer Community... KitKat is announced to run on Devices with 512 MB of RAM. What is Stopping you from taking the easy decision of at least releasing the sources for KitKat????
how many signs in a petition will this take? we will get it??????????????
Thanks ozzmanj1 for starting this thread. Yes ! Its true that Sony has completely forgotten the 2011 devices.
And forum legends ! Kindly try to put yourself in our shoes and then respond. Please stop saying "No No and NO!" and give us REASONS.
Sony said 2011 devices are limited in functionality and hence they didnt release Jelly bean and its acceptable.
But Google just announced KitKat will run comfortable on 512 mb devices. (Its official - dont say its not true- Refer http://googleblog.blogspot.in/2013/10/android-for-all-and-new-nexus-5.html)
That means Android 4.4 is not a minor release. Google has increased its performance and the resource usage.
SO KINDLY STOP COMPARING JELLY BEAN AND KITKAT. Jelly Bean struggled on 512mb devices but KitKat should be fine.
My Arc S is an excellent device and it has got great curvy looks even at this age. I certainly love it.
We just want you to release an update which is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE.
OR
Give us reasons why its not possible rather than saying "No jelly bean so no kitkat"a

Hello Suppory Forum and Sony generally. A hug from Mexico!
My request is the same as that of others, we know that there is no Sony Ericsson but please make every effort to update our smartphone because it is one of the best smartphones of the whole story and there is none that you created, this smartphone does not deserve this and you already know that the new version of android (4.4) works on devices with 512M Ram, please do everything possible to save this game titan. My respects to you all from Mexico!.
I know nothing is impossible solamenta to do it. Make the impossible possible!
I'm using a custom rom ICS with the Sony NXT skin and it runs fine. Even the new Playstation Mobile application works on it. If it would be possible to get KitKat on this device, or at least a custom rom that would be great.
