RAY - USB HOST mode

Hi! Everyone!
some

I'm  trying to remote control my DSRL camera from my Xperia RAY USB,  using several apps (available on Androi Market) but I fail to do it because of USB host driver abscence.

My question is, how can I enable USB Host control in RAY in order to use this "essencial smartphone resource" since I´m a photographer.
In the SE RAY's page there is a mention to USB HOST usage under FEATURES tag and there is a small text referring to an update: "To enjoy this feature, you may need to update your phone software."

My RAY's version is:

Model: ST18i

Android: 2.3.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf

How can I enable USB host feature?

Thank you all for your help!

Kind regards,

Bruno

It has USB host using the latest version of the software as by default only supports connection of a mouse/keyboard.

If you would like to use USB host in other ways you'll need root access on the phone, and also app's that can manage the features that you're looking for.

Note that by rooting your phone your may void your warranty.

Johan, thank you for your reply.

I hope the release of Ice cream sandwich version for Ray brings some opening in terms of connectivity.

Ray is really pretty in size and shape and powerful in terms of processor, but ROM and RAM are really very unattractive aspects of this smartphone, so if i'm not able to use USB for remote my cam... Its disappointing.

Rooting is always an option... but would be nice that SONY take good care of this "litle" marketing USB lock feature.

Lets wait and see.

Once again, thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Bruno

Hi Zamzibar, did you have any success with this? Im about to try soon, as far as I can tell I need to root my ray and buy an OTG cable and then I think it'll be good to go?

Kind regards
