PS4 Remote Play issue

PS4 Remote Play issue

So I have a Z4 LTE Tablet.  I've gotten everything set up and working just fine, and even managed to use the remote play feature to connect to my PS4 and observe the incredible graphics with a few minutes of Arkham Knight.  Everything worked flawlessly.  Until today.  I had some free time and decided to swap disks over to The Last of Us, and when I activated the remote play feature all I can get is a dark grey/black screen that when touched gives me the on-screen controls.

I've already checked, and

1. yes the dual shock controller was paired and active.

2. switching the Z4 between auto-rotate and fixed landscape did nothing to correct the issue.

3. unpairing the Z4 from the PS4 and then reconnecting the app from scratch hasn't fixed it.

I haven't even made it into the game yet, this is in the PS4 home screen.  The only thing that has happened is the PS4 did an update again in the last week or so, but nothing has updated the Z4.  It was displaying perfectly 7 or 8 days ago, but now I can't get anything but the on-screen controls.

Any suggestions?

@Begalund

Are you able to remote play other games?

Well, since the main problem is that I can't display anything anymore (no games, no home screen), all I get is the grey screen and, once I touch the display, the on-screen controls will pop-up.  If I scroll from the bottom, the PS button, options and share button appear, if I sweep from the top the touchpad display appears. And holding a finger on the display will act like the thumb stick - depending on which side the finger is closest to.

But no image from the ps4 is ever displayed, in any resolution.

Go to settings, apps, all, and find remote play app.
Delete cache and data then re-pair to your ps4.

Okay, tried that.  It didn't help.  I ended up with one step worse.  It un-paired the PS4 controller, and now I cannot reconnect either of the two controllers I have.  So I attempted to reset completely from scratch.  I removed the device from the PS4 remote play connection settings.  I re-synced the two controllers with the PS4.  I completely removed the remote play app from the Z4, and also removed the playstation app as well.  I even checked that the ps4 controller wasn't in the bluetooth list for good measure.

I then reinstalled both apps and started over.  No luck.  I finally managed to get one controller to talk with the Z4 again, although it took almost 30-minutes of frustration.  However, still no luck on getting the screen displayed.  Same issue as before; on-screen controls only, even with the controller functional and active.

Is there a connection speed issue?  something I need to change in settings on one or both devices?  because I didn't change anything prior to it not morking other than swapping disks, and having the PS4 auto-update.  And since I haven't yet made it into a game, I can't see what affect the disk would have on the issue - although to be thorough, I have swapped back.  still no luck there either.

I've had mostly success with Remote Play, the network requirements need to be met, if not you will see the grey screen.  Are you on wifi or LTE when that happens?  Do you think you can disable LTE and test at home to see if that works?

I can certainly give this a try.  Ultimately I've been trying it at home on wifi everytime, sitting about 4 feet from the router (class N) and not having any luck.  Although, the last time I gave it an attempt, I did get an error about remote play being unavailable because of network issues.  I'm planning on attepting to connect the PS4 directly via cable (since I rarely play twitch games, I've never needed to worry about the PS4 being connected via wifi).

But I can see how this might be an issue.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah.... Still no dice.  Plugging in the PS4, and switching it over to LAN cable internet connection still didn't help.  The only thing using the wifi at this point was the Z4, and still all I get is the on-screen controls.

I really really don't want to factory restore and start completely from scratch.

@Begalund

were you able to figure it out?

Yes, and no.

It started working again, randomly about a week to two weeks later, without any additional changes on my end, but things were running very slowly and the connection was dropping often.  I exchanged my modem with my cable provider, and that seems to have helped stablize the connection.

But I still have no idea what caused the issue in the first place.  The only thing I did was a reboot (power off, power on), nothing too drastic and no system changes.  So *shrug*.  At least it is working again for the moment.
