Process limits and activities

Whenever I enable "DON'T KEEP ACTIVITIES" under Developer Options, my phone keeps lagging.  Also, do I need to specify a process limit or just use the standard?  I'm running ICS on Xperia P.  Screenshot for your perusal.

Seems normal to me. Whenever you use another app, almost every app gets terminated causing the phone to reload the app whenever you re-enter it. Take a look when you press the home button to go back to the launcher, doesn't take time to load everything? Also reloading every app uses CPU which drains the battery even more. You should NOT use it unless you're debugging something on the Phone.

1 GB of ram is enough for the Phone, don't use this option unless you know why you should.

Now for the background limit, like i said above reloading the apps uses CPU and causes the phone to lag. Set it to standard limit and leave it there.

P.S.: Use Force GPU Rendering, uses a bit more ram but the Phone is way smoother.

Also you don't need an antivirus/task killer. It slows down you Phone. Just be more careful on what you install on it and you should be fine.

I don't notice any difference when I enable Force GPU Rendering.  Anyway, thanks for the response regarding process limiting and closing activities, that was very helpful.

About the GPU Rendering, try this.

Head over to settings and disable it.
Return to the home screen and then open recent apps and get rid of the settings.
Then head over to settings and swipe your finger upwards very quick to get to the bottom of the list.
It should lag a bit.
Now try it with GPU Rendering on. It should be way smoother! This also works on the home screens.
Try scrolling within the home screens with CPU and then with GPU.
At least it works for me :smileyhappy:.

For the phone to get smoother,you can also set the animations(transition and window) to 0.5x.It moves faster on these settings.
