After the ICS update my SOLA has gone a little slow. I don't really mind the lagginess and I can live with it. But I would be really happy if that is gone and I can play more games without having to close those extra running apps. Who doesn't like a swift experience? So I was wondering;
1) Is there a possible way that I can increase the RAM of SOLA? As far as I know mobile chipsets are some what same as computers. The RAM is the hardware and so not easy to change in mobiles. However, I am here asking for a way to use a part(or whole) of my internal/external storage as a Ram. I have gone through a couple of blogs/forums and it seems like it is possible if I root my device. But I was wondering if there is a way to possibly do it without rooting the device?
2) Is there a way possible I can overclock my cpu/gpu without rooting the device?
3) Does rooting the device in itself voids the warrenty? Or the warrenty gets void if I turn it into a brick?
4) If I once root the device, can I turn it back into the same device as it was earlier? I mean can I lock the root back? (I hope I make myself clear)
P.S Thank you sony for the much awaited ICS. Any kind of suggestions to increase the speed of the device are welcome.
P.P.S I would like sony moderators to answer this.
you can NOT increase RAM
you can NOT overclock your CPU/GPU w/o rooting your phone
it could void your warranty, overclocking will drain your battery faster, by rooting you could damage your phone permanently

this is my suggestion
1) repair your phone (not settings nor factory reset) with either SUS or PCC
2) go to settings > app > all > disable apps that you dont use and uninstall apps that you don't use

Hey uliwooly, I already repaired my SOLA 3 times. 2 times with SUS and 1 time with PCC. I did it to make my wifi work but later figured out that it was the n-brand that caused the problem.
And I am not really having any kind of trouble using my SOLA in day to day life. It works just fine for me. I am just looking for ways to make it go more fast.
When I play games like Dead Trigger and Frontline commando it gets a little laggy. And after closing the games if I go into running apps I see many of the apps showing restarting. I just want to have it go more fast.
Also, if while/after rooting I damage my mobile in terms of hardware (by overcloking or something like that) I understand the risk. I want to know it in terms of software.
you could brick your phone if you root but at the end of the day it's up to you
this is how to root

someone is trying to hide the facts
Ok. I understand the risks and as I am still learning. So not sure if I will do it.
What do you have to say about this one?

and this one?
I'm aware of that, but that's only if you have a LOT of apps, one thing you can do is disable the apps that you do not use, all the facebook extensions, it will free up some RAM and better performance
That's the thing uli. Without using many apps (or the ones I don't really use) it works as a charm.
Anyways, while going through these forums and blogs I also saw some apps that claim (or seem to) that they can boost the ram and optimize it for better experience. But I was wondering if they would really do that? I think eventually they will end up eating more ram.
If yes, can you recommand some.
don't go for those RAM apps or taskillers or battery apps or antivirus, those are bad apps that will create a LOT of problems, drain your battery and just check the permissions this apps require, why would they need to check your sms or your contacts
Exactly. Thank you uli. You have been a great help.
P.S. I just use avast antivirus and that too just to use its anti-theft feature. And I trust this one while giving those permissions.
