Poor wifi capture

When i use my laptop in the same place where i use my phone, i will get better signal of Wifi. But my XP's WiFi catching capacity is too low that it struggles to find that wifi network. I have to go near the door to get connected, while my laptop works well and fine in the same place. Is this a software issue or poor wifi hardware in phone? Any fixes regarding this issue?

If you have checked this on several routers I suggest that you have the phone examined at a repair center to check if there are any problems with your device.
