Poor camera performance

Poor camera performance

Considering the high spec of the Xperia Z and the fact I have had it less than a week I don't rate the camera that highly.

Frequently it will not focus properly with no apparent reason for this and on other less rare occassions it will!

Has any else come across this problem and found a fix?

Thank you.

The 307 (latest) firmware has made a huge difference to the camera - I've been providing feedback to devs for a while now and this is the single best update they have achieved so far

so in answer to your question - if you had asked me last week or 2 months ago I would have been less upbeat but the camera has come on leaps and bounds - it is almost pefect

I don't yet have "307" on my phone.

Any indication when it will be rolled out?

I have the same problem. Image compression is too high. Is there any way to reduce that compression? I don't have 307 neither so photo quality isn't very good. Any solutions!? Thx! Slightly_smiling_Face

The camera is TERRIBLE!!! Sony please, please, please release the firmware update soon in the UK (Orange) i really dont want to get rid of the phone but the camera picture quality is unbelievably bad! Way too much compression and over processing.

Iv rooted phone and installed CyberShot and this did nothing. Believe the drivers are to blame and only Sony can fix this

The lastest firmware installed on my phone a day or so ago and the camera perfomance is exact the same - poor at best.

No focus the majority of the time!

Same here, thought i would wait for the update before i sell the phone to see if SONY will finally listen to its customers and..... no improvement at all.

Camera still horrible!

Thanks Geoff they are amazing photos and if that is what the Sony Z can take it is the reason why I bought this phone! Unfortunately I am on 434 (UK Generic) and its not got that good a quality on my camera even in ideal conditions; I do appreciate that a lot of photos are talent reliant too! I read one of your posts and you said 307 was the firmware update that made the camera really work. I really hope Sony update the firmware soon. Do you know does flashing your phone void your warranty? I would like the phone to be able to take this quality photo for holidays and I reckon that the firmware update will not happen for my phone. Would it be better to update just to 307?

Thanks

not a problem Tom, I have voiced my own concerns about the camera over the last few months with the Developers and I have seen some improvement made but in reality there is a limit to what they can do with such a small lens and fitting a larger lens would make the phone quite a bit bigger

The designers have to decide what they are trying to do and who they are trying to please, personally I wouldn't mind having a phone a few mm deeper if the lens was larger but you can't please everybody

best regards
