Phone turned off and won't turn back on

Hi, my z1 recently switched itself off without warning and now won't switch back on. I have tried to reset it with the power+volume up method, and also the red button under the sim flap. Also, when the charger is connected the notification led flashes red instead of the usual steady red.

I've had this problem twice before, but either power+volume up or simply connecting the charger has fixed it.

Thanks in advance for any help, I've only had this phone a few months but now I'm lost without it 😩

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

It would be worth running a software repair:

1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

Hi, thanks for replying. I've downloaded the PC suite but it is apparently unable to recognise my phone. When I connect my phone to the computer, the computer makes the device connected sound, but then every 8 seconds it disconnects and immediately reconnects only to do the same thing 8 seconds later.

I appreciate you helping me with this, I'd much rather try to get it sorted myself than have to take it somewhere else to be fixed.

To solve the issue, open Device Manager on your computer to reinstall the driver for your device while your device is connected with your PC via a USB cable.

Microsoft Windows Vista and 7 users

To open Device manager on your computer

Click on the Start button.
In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter.

Microsoft Windows 8 users

To open Device manager on your computer

Click the Desktop Tile to open the Desktop.
Click >> at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Select Control Panel from the Menu.
Select Device Manager from the list of control panel items.
Note: If you do not see the screen with the Device Manager option, click the View by drop-down menu and select Small icons.

Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 users

To open Device manager on your computer

On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.

To reinstall the drivers for your device

Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer.

Hi Sam, again, thanks for the reply.

I have tried to open the phone's section of the device manager but the phone won't stay connected to the computer long enough for me to find it in the list.

Is there any way for me to manually reinstall the drivers without the phone being connected to the PC?

Thanks

Sam

Have you tried connecting in flash mode? If you follow the steps near the top of this thread the firmware repair will only have you connect it in flash mode at the very end of the process.
