Phone memory discrepancy with pc companion

Hi,

My phone calculates its internal storage free space to be 1.1/5 GB.  When I connect to sony pc companion it says I only have 117 MB!  This is preventing me from updating the system as I need 500 MB free space.  Can anyone tell me how I can solve this discrepancy?
