PC Companion Error

I have had this problem for a couple of days now.

When i go through the sony website and to look for an update for my phone Xperia S it won't work, i can get to the stage where it says preparing then once prepared it will show this tab/message PC Companion Error.png , it tells me to click for more details on the error so when i do this, the message i get is that, when i click ignore it does nothing and when click reload it does it but nothing is fixed. Error message.pngAlso this issue started after me updating java, but it installed successfully and i even reinstalled it.I know that there isn't an ICS update available for my phone but this is an issue im having, if there ws no update it will tell instead its telling me this. PC Companion does work but i just want to fix this problem if this ain't working then PC Companion will do the same thing when i try to update my phone.

Please help, thanks

Try downloading something called Sony Update Service, or SUS, it seems to work [unlike PCC] and uninstall PCC.

PCC seems to be nothing but a problematic piece of software that doesn't work at all.

Hi, there!

If you must use a browser for the update, try Mozilla. Apparently, I've been having problems myself with IE9 when running Java applets.  Mozilla should do well.

However, it is much more advisable to download SUS as was advised by skip0pot2mus.

Cheers, mate!

I had this issue

Updating Java to the latest version and doing a Pc reboot solved the issue

If you don't already have Java installed and you need it - here's the link http://www.java.com/en/

Just re-read your post and see you have the latest Java - Have you tried cleaning cookies and cache from your Pc and also any redundant registry keys that could be causing a conflict - I use CCleaner for similar types of issues - And I see Norton on your images, Is this blocking access from the site to access your phone - Maybe disabling Norton to auto run/start on boot-up and running the site update check may help solve your issue

i have cleared the cache and cookies even cleared history etc, didnt work. i even reset my computer to a date before the prob started but its still there so i guess its not java fault, it may be the norton.

how do i disable norton to auto start on boot up?

and how do i run the site update check?

Thanks

Well Norton settings I'm not sure off the top of my head but the Engineers way as I am (I own and run my own Pc repair and IT security Company) is to go to start or the windows symbol bottom right type in the run or search bar msconfig and hit enter - In the box that appears click on the services tab and then untick anything that says Norton or Symantec and then hit apply - You will get a warning message saying you need to reboot to apply the changes and you will also get a waring upon reboot to say changes have been made - So try that and to undo the changes go back to msconfig - services and re-tick the boxes you unticked Norton and possibly Symantec - Hit apply and again reboot for the changes to be applied

Hope this helps

ANNOUNCEMENT: UPDATE: Problems updating to ICS

Hi,

We have identified the earlier issues and are working to implement the solution across all available ICS updates. This process will happen gradually beginning now.

Feel free to run your update again now to see if it is available, or wait and we will inform you here when all updates have been re-released.

-Jeff

Hi,

Unfortunately it seems that some users have problems to update their phones to ICS even if their SI number is in the list. We have located some issues and we're working on fixing them as soon as possible.

So if your SI number is listed for the ICS update but you still get the message saying that your phone is up-to-date stay calm we're working on it. We will come back with more info soon.

Hi,

I get the following error message (it seems to be different one):

Error1.jpg

Error2.jpg

Does anyone know what may cause such an error? I've tried to update through the Phone, but it doesn't find any new updates.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Bests,

Andrey.
