Overheating, Turning Off Repeatedly, Blackout/Black Screen, Power Button Unresponsive...

Hi all,

I have just got a Sony Ericsson Z1 on contract two weeks ago, I'm already regreting the purchase.

Basically, its started turning off randumly. For example, I take a few shots with the camera, then suddenly the screen goes black and you can fadly see the XPERIA in the backlight... the the phone turns back on. This happens when I could be doing anything, like browsing the net, turning on bluetooth, makeing a call etc.

Sometimes, the phone power button becomes unresponsive for a period of time, before turning on again. Other times, it just restarts streight away. I've noticed the phone sometimes goes slow before it happens, like the homescreen may not load icons for a few seconds when you click the home button. Or the home screen shows a number on the email icon (as if to say I have some unread email) when I have read all the emails.

It's really getting annoying. The other day, I had the phone in my pocket and when I took it out, it was really hot. Then it kept blacking out throughout the rest of the day. The APPS MANAGMENT settings show running apps are normal, but sometimes it shows only 250mb ram free. But there are no applications on the list using all the ram up. Sometimes, the phone turns off and thats it. It just wont start untill you remove the simcard cover and press the red button to kickstart the phone. On the unlock-via pattern screen, it freezes many many times.

I'm really really stressed. I literally can't afford much and I though a nice phone (for the first time in my life) would perhaps bring a positive outcome in my life, but Sony have really let me down.

Please people... any help?

The phone is insured but I dont want to claim a new phone (and loose all my settings/media) if I can repair the issue somehow.

IS ANYBODY ELSE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE??

Regards.

You could go for a software repair, but it is not sure all your issues will be fixed. On the other hand, you will lose phone memory.

I've already got the latest version of Andriod. Also, the phone was OK before the update, its only a few days after the update that all the issues started...

Does not matter that you are up to date, something could have gone wrong with the update, that is why you could go for a software repair. But it would be wise to take it into service and ask for a replace.

I'll be speaking to virgin mobile tomorrow morning... I'll post back here with what they have to say.

I'll be honest though... very dissappointed with Sony.

Is there any way I can perform the software repair/reinstall myself, or must it be done by a mobile phone engineer/sony?

Hi there,

Of course you can.

Repair/re-install your current software using Sony Update Service and follow the simple steps.

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/

NOTE:Be sure that your battery charged at least 70%

Cheers.

Just try what alexrx suggested,be careful NOT to disconnect the phone while the process is running.
