Notifications from apps

Hey, I have the sony xperia play for verizon. I am not receiving any notifications from facebook or other apps. Is there any bug fix for this, I bought this about 1 year ago and it has never worked right then I had a referbished one sent, for a cracked screen, and this one dosent work either. Is there any way to get this to work throught a different way? I can get notifications about 1 every 3 monthes for about 2mins.

I've done a factory reset multiple times before trying to get it to work and it wouldn't work. PC compainion will not reconize my phone and it says it needs to update and it won't update.

well, its midnight and its working right now. Don't know why, didn't do anything to it. hope it stays. its been up for about 30 mins now.
