How do you want the notification? There are different ways for this.
For example, many network operators automatically send you a text message saying "+44123456789 tried to call you on May 22nd at 13:37".
Then there's the notification you get in the status bar (the u-turned red arrow).
Also - what software build number do you have in your phone?
(Settings > About phone).
