Notification bar wont pull down

i have recently got an xperia sp. it worked fine for a few weeks then the notification bar stopped working in portrait mode. Im forever moving my fone from side to side depending on what app im using. it seems to be the top of the screen in portrait mode that doesnt seem to be responsive.

does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi, try factory reset phone, just be sure not to erase your personal data.

tried the factory reset several times. no effect.

is this a problem with the phone itself,perhaps and not the software?

Let's hope it is just a software issue. The next step is to repair phone software with PC Companion or Update Service.

Be aware that this process will erase phone data complete, backup if necessary.

I have used the repair service on the PC companion and updated. 

again no effect

Then you have to send phone to your local service centre to have it checked.
