I did the update through PC Companion the other day and am now running Android 2.3.3.
Ever since i did the update i get no notification whatsoever when I get a text message. Nothing in the bar at the top of the screen, no noise no vibration. Nothing.
The only time the phone acknowledges a new etxt at all is when I actively go into the Messaging app. Once I am in I then get the icon at the top of the screen but still no notification sound.
I have looked at all the settings I can find and have also done a repair, again through PC Companion. Nothing has helped.
NOTE: Ringtone for incoming calls is fine. And I also get notifications as normal for messages coming through Talk. I also get no notification when I plug my phone into the PC like I did before.
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks Jake.
But i followed the link on your post and hit Software updates, and it just took me to a prompt to install PC Companion......am i missing something?
I believe there may be maintenance occurring on the website at the moment, I suggest visiting the link at a later time.
@ Uliwooly: Yes mate, i've checked every setting i could find.
@ Jake: I have tried agian this morning and also looked for other links as well. Everything i have read suggests that to update the software on your X10 you have to use PC Companion, any links or posts relating to the Sone Erricson Update Service just says "Download PC Companion".
this is a long shot but download
Quick Settings -> volume control and play with the settings

Thanks for the suggestion Uliwooly.
Unfotrunately the issue is not with the notification volume, it's with a complete lack of the phone acknowledgign that a new message has arrived at all. When i select a notification tone, it plays loud and clear. but wheni do get a new text message the phoen does do ANY nofication. Not just sound but also nothing in the bar atteh top of the screen, no flashing LED. Nothing at all.
i will try the Update Service again tonight and if that doesn't work i'll take it to the phone shop to get the handset sent off for a repair. Luckily i have a spare handset for just this kind of emergency.
go to settings > sound > volume
and see if " USE INCOMING CALL VOLUME FOR NOTIFICATIONS" Has been checked or not
if it is not..then check it..
Yep, I have tried sending messages to my phone with all the various settings both on and off (just incase gingerbread made stuff work backwards somehow). Still nothing.
hmm..okz then u have to repair..
just back up all ur files..
did another repair through PC Companion and everythign started working again! Then the phone froze so i did a resatrt, and no the text problem has come back. So apparently i can fix it myself, as long as i never turn my phone off.
Sending it in for repair today. /sigh.
Took my phone to my local branch of "Phones 4 U". they basically said that there is no point sending it as they are getting hundreds of complaints and repair requests since the 2.3.3 update. Aparently the the firmware is just bugged to hell and all the repair centers are doing is re-flashing the firmware and sending the phones back out,
They told me that SE normally release a new version or some sort of fix in the next few weeks so it's better to just wait it out.
Joy.
