No Proxy Settings for Wi-Fi?

No Proxy Settings for Wi-Fi?

I've extensively searched the internet for a solution on how to successfully browse the internet, use Market app, etc, with my X8 when connected to a Wi-Fi WITH PROXY AUTHENTICATION.

So far, no go!

Is Sony Ericsson planning to release a fix for that? Or is SE just going to leave it as is?

This is my first SE phone and because of this limitation, it is going to be the last!

Moreover, I was planning to give a SE phone to my mom at Mother's day and, guess what, I bought her another brand!

Extended user guide does not address Wi-Fi connection when proxy authentication is required to access internet. And no configuration menu offers proxy settings (proxy host IP, port #, username & password).

Yes, I tried a bunch of apps from market (ASProxy, ProxyDroid, Transproxy, WifiAid, even GAE Proxy). None worked, most of them returned an error saying iptables/netfilter were not found.

iptables can be found in custom ROMs, but it is said netfilter must be supported by the kernel itself. That's why I was wondering if SE would make an effort in order to release an update adding those features.

sucks, you should just go for the custom rom and when SE fix it, flash back the original firmware

I tested a custom ROM which had proxy settings added to Wi-Fi configuration (miniCM6, Android 2.2.1). Proxy authentication worked perfectly when I opened browser, but good news ends here!

Other apps (including market) still don't work. I tested again those apps for proxy but, although they now find iptables, they return error regarding netfilter:

iptables v1.4.7: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

Until SE fixes this, I guess I'll need to flash a custom kernel into my X8 as well.

Finally I got it solved: I replaced my X8 with an iPhone! Now I have proxy settings WITH authentication PER NETWORK and now ALL applications work like a charm! OMG, it's so easy that it hurts! LOL

Bye-bye Sony Ericsson & Google! I hope I don't see you both ever again!!!
