Before I got my first smartphone (which was my previous phone) I had two SE Walkman phones (first a t610 and after a w810) so I got accustomed to having a good music experience... I have some gripes with the current player:
I assume this applies to the music player in each and every Xperia brand phone
1- The way tracks are sorted if you browse your library by author. Tracks are sorted alphabetically when they should be sorted (first) by album and (second) by track. It's not possible to listen to consecutive albums from the same authors keeping the original track order (uless I trick the app by editing the tags...).
2- Can't view the currently playing list as a scrollable "list" (rather one can only scroll and see the details of 1 song at a time) and can't easily navigate without changing the music... Unless one is really quick since if you take a couple of seconds to read the song info since the player will jump from the previous song and start playing the one we are viewing. Wouldn't it be better to either allow viewing the whole playlist the same way the player displays the track list (when it lists all the tracks from all the albums under "author" view)?
3- No aac support! In the pre iGadgets era this was ok but currently aac is just as much of a standard and widespread as mp3...
PS: If this is not the correct place for this sort of message please refer me to the correct support form / email
This is simply how the application works, unfortunately there is no way to alter this at this stage. However the good news is, as you have an Android phone there a wealth of third party media players available through the PlayStore that will offer you the functions you are looking for.

This was a long shot I know (somewhat hoped people on the team agreed with my view in point 1 and that it would eventually be adopted... points 2 and 3 are secondary)...
I tried a couple of 3rd party players... Problem is these aren't compatible with the Sola music player widget (which is a lot nicer than the ones I found on market) and with the lockscreen music controls... Also not sure what is the behavior with the headset button presses (this I haven't tried).
The changes I'd most welcome are the ones referring the music order. The issue here is there is no option to change this behavior (OEM apps tend to be very limited when it comes to settings / customization options... All I wanted was for songs to be ordered by Author>Album>Track>Title (this last one would only be useful if tag is missing fields) but the music player settings doesn't offer the possibility to define the sorting hierarchy...
Same goes for playlist navigation (instead automatically starting playing the song you just swiped to after a few seconds of standing there I'd rather be allowed to only do so when I press the "cover" image). To me they seem more logical than the current (but I guess opinions may differ).
I can live without AAC (even if VLC seems to be the only free player to support AAC and it being quite unstable at the moment...).
PS: I have to say I'm very pleased with the way these forums work. In a completely different league than others I tried in the past (Blackberry being one of them).
Reviewing my old posts... Remebered that by using a 3rd party music player besides losing the lockscreen integration one also loses the smart extras functions...
Why not adding extra options to settings? Hope to see "more power to the user" on future builds.
