Music Library/Gallery

Another problem I've run into since upgrading.

The new version of the music library/gallery and player does not seem to find any of the artist information associated with my music files. Almost all songs and albums are shown as done by an unknown artist.

The files are all on the SD Card and haven't been changed since the upgrade. Mediascape rendered all the artist names correctly.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

Thanks

That is odd. The new player should read the files properly, of course. I wonder if there was a problem flashing the new firmware? If so, you could try reinstalling it to see if that helps. It might also be worth deleting at least some of your music and loading it back on to the phone and seeing if the tags are then correct. That would be easier than re-flashing the firmware.  Good luck!

Just seen your thread about widgets acting oddly. I fear that the firmware might well be the problem here. I hope not, but back up all your information as described in your other thread if you do decide to repair the firmware, and it will then at least be as painless as possible. It might be the only way. I am assuming that you used an official Sony Ericsson 2.3.3 ROM...?

I did use the official ROM as supported by my mobile carrier (props to them for the quick release of the update, especially compared to the time it took them to release 2.1).

Subsequent to the early part of that thread, I worked out that not all widgets behaved like that. Widgets like the Facebook in Xperia widget work fine (at least after a data reset).

I'm not keen to reflash the firmware (and have to reload everything for a 3rd time).

I'll try reloading music tonight at home through Media Go and see if that fixes it.

transfer some of the unknown files to your PC and see if the computer can recognize the artist/album

It might also be worth getting TuneWiki from the market, firstly to see if another app recognises the tags, but you can also edit the tags with TuneWiki and test whether any changes are subsequently reflected in the stock music app. I am not suggesting that you go through the tedium of changing them all thus, but it might help you to determine the root of your problem. You could also try editing the tags on your computer and seeing if they are reflected...

To summarise.

I tried TuneWiki, but it wouldn't recognise the files either.

I ran a repair on the phone last night (which I think was probably unnecessary), but it can't hurt, right?

I then checked music on the SD card using Media Go, wich recognised all the file attributes. I then tried reloading the files using Media Go (I rip to wma to keep file sizes down and I read somewhere about a problem with another SE phone (non-Xperia) not reading wmas correctly if they weren't loaded by Media Go). The phone's music player and library now recognises the artists - so it's something to do with pre-existing songs and probably the file type (wma). My only problem is now reloading the rest of my music library through Media Go, which appears as if it will take in excess of 10 hours to do. Oh well, at least it works....

Thanks for the help.

It is simply a lack of the correct meta data being tagged in the files, MediaGo searches for this content and adds this to the files.

I got another problem. Music player doesn´t recognise some songs, mp3 files placed in a music folder. I can play this files only thru file browser. What should I do. Fix this bug?
