MTP Driver Issue

Hello,

I seem to be having problems connecting my Xperia Play to my computer in MTP mode.

It has worked in the past but recently would not connect to PC Companion and when I checked Device Manager the phone was listed with an exclamation mark. I've tried uninstalling the device from Device Manager and allowed it to reinstall but now it fails to install the driver.

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

P.S. Not sure if it makes a differfence but I'm running Windows 7 64bit with Service Pack 1

I have now got this issue with my Xperia S as well. The first time i connected about a month back when i got this phone, i was able to access all folders using pc companion. Today when i tried loading up some music, the phone simply does not get recognised by PC companion (i am using Window 7 64 bit ultimate ed). None of the workarounds suggested above worked for me. Either i get the mtp driver failure or even if the phone gets recognised as xperia s LT26i, i am unable to see any folders using the file explorer. basically i have now ended up with a quite expensive smartphone on which i cannot load any media from my pc. This is ridiculous since even my old Nokia N95 works flawlessly on a usb connection. Any help is desparately needed

Same problem on WinXP SP3 (german), but my xperia wasn`t recognized on my machine never. But it was recognized on a PC of a friend with Win XP SP3 and on a notebook with Win7.

It seems that Windows doesn`t install any driver, because when you look up what driver is installed, the massage is: this device don`t need a driver or there is no driver installed.

So I can`t change the driver! And I have offered all drivers I could have found!!!

Please Help!!!!!!

I tried this but havebeen unsuccessful. From the day I bought this phone which was in April, I have never been able to connect the phone to my laptop. I am running Windows 7 professional 64-bit version. I have tried all fixes available on various forums without any sucess. Will be great is someone can help.

I have got a notification about an upgrade available to .73 but cannot do it till the time PC companion connects to the phone.

Best Regards,

Here are the steps I took to fix the problem:

  1. As uliwooly said you have to download the latest SUS version inhttp://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
  2. Download the latest PC Companion version athttp://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/
  3. Install, reboot (if requested, i dind't have to do it)
  4. Turn off firewall and antivirus temporarily
  5. Unmount your SD card go to Settings>Storage
  6. Connect your phone to the PC using th eregular USB cable that comes with your phone
  7. Update the software
  8. Update your apps
  9. Replug your antivirus and firewall
  10. Mount your SD back

This is a workaroud, however the post is still a bug that should be fixed by the PC companion developers, That software has a bunch of gaps.

And please SONY GUYS! IMPROVE YOUR ERROR MESSAGES, put a code or something to make the diagnose easier.

Hope this helps,

Hello All,

Here I found the some helpful through my R&D    :

If you getting the error related to MTP Driver issue or error like Operation failed with 0x8007047F

The specified program is not a Windows or MS-DOS program??

because some windows7 edition, unfortunately did not come with Windows Media Player & media features . SO above steps didn't work just give you installer but that doesn't work because if basic setup is missing how the add-ons works there is two ways (2nd method is recommended by me) :

method 1)

  • Click Start
  • Click Control Panel
  • Click Programs and Features
  • Click Turn Windows Features on or off
  • Click + next to "Media Features"
  • Add Check next to "Windows Media Player"
  • Click OK.

---------------------------------------  or -----------------------------------

  • Download media player manually from below link for windows 7 & install it

           http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12446

  • If still problem is occured then follow 2 method it's really work

Method 2) (recommended)

  • Download Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211) from below link:

          http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546

  • Download the installer as per your edition & reboot the PC & and follow the same steps like above:
  1. Download the latest SUS version in http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
  2. Download the latest PC Companion version at http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/
  3. Install, reboot (if requested, I didn’t have to do it)
  4. Turn off firewall and antivirus temporarily
  5. Unmounts your SD card go to Settings>Storage
  6. Connect your phone to the PC using the regular USB cable that comes with your phone
  7. Update the software
  8. Update your apps
  9. Enable your antivirus and firewall
  10. Mount your SD back

Now it's work right. If yes why don't you click like button below . If not why don't give one more try. Or else why don’t you reply over below link. Thanks

I don't know if this can help anybody, but on my end the problems with the MTP driver could be solved by putting a smaller SD card in. With my 32 GB card the phone can't be accessed by PCC, with 2 - 8 GB it works flawless, with 16 GB it will work random.

Thank you. I found Media Feature Pack (If your system is 32 bit you try to search Windows6.1-KB968211-x32). After installed that, I installed pc-compaion succesfully.

Thank You, user_redge! It really worked in my case! Winking_Face

In my case there is a ST27i (go) initially GB then ICS with a WinXP. Every time I tried to make a connection there were a MPT Device that degraded to just "Android" in Device manager.

There were a lot of suggestions read, like install PDANet, remove SD card, untick USB debugging... 4 days of testing different configurations plus a couple of Android resets ends up with a simple resolution: IN MY case it worked when I switched the USB Connection Mode on the phone to Mass Storage AND I have mounted an additional microSD on it. Suddenly installed earlier PC Companion just discovered it and filled with accessible applications!

Very, very, very strange position of developers and Sony to customers. I had to waste 4 days for tests and tries with a brand new device because of lack of simple methods and automated initial setup. That's why Apple beats with one single device all other manufacturers with plenty of devices.

Pay attention to such details, Sony!

PS. "Make believe" - LOL!
