I'm afraid it's not possible to move apps to the SD card in Z2. Apps may store data there but it's not possible to move the app itself.

Hi there
I read that Google has changed their politics about to be able to use a SD card. But I then also happily read that Sony have made it possible to move apps to the SD card. So I bought a high speed 128 GB Sd card.
Now to the problem: My Z2 runs 4.4.2, version 17.1.2.A.0.314, but I can not move any app to the card from within Settings -> Apps.
How do I do it?
Best regards
Kenneth
It has but it is for a fairly newer version of Android that is for the lower end devices which have very low internal memory.
Although it should be implemented in the next major update (4.4.2 > 4.4.4 or 5.0)
Hi Rickard
Thank you for your reply.
Although the Z2 has 16GB of internal memory and about 11GB for apps, I have manage to fill it up till 75%. Which means it keeps telling me I have to move some data. It is quite ignoring. I actually bought a 128GB High speed SD card, because of it.
Please go through with the suggestion to add the feature to move apps to the SD card from your low spec models to this high performance phone.
In my understanding it does not make sense to only add features on lower models. It makes more sense to add new features to highest spec models and then maybe give some of the features to the lower spec models. Although we payed more for the phone.

Hi again
I now have update 4.4.4, but how do I move the applications to the SD Card?
Best regards
Kenneth
I'm afraid it's not possible to move apps to the SD card in Z2. If you have apps that stores alot of data it may however be possible to configure those apps to save their data on the SD card. In my experience, it's usually not apps that takes up alot of space, it's data saved by apps and moving the apps to the SD would not help in that case.
Hi Rickard
Thank you for your response.
I'm sad to hear that the Z2 still does not support moving apps to the SD card. Will it ever get the feature?
In my case it is apps that takes up the space. I have of cause moved all app data which support it to the SD card. From your comment I understand that Sony then just rely on developers of apps to make that feature...I'm sorry to say it, but that is not a good move.
This also means regarding space, it is better to have the cheaper T2 Ultra than the flagship Z models?
My only way to make use of my expensive bought 128GB SD card is to root the phone 😞
Best regards
Kenneth
I'm afraid i don't know if this is something that will be added in the future.
It depends on what apps you use. If you have many/large APK-files you may be able to install more apps in a T2 Ultra as it can move apps to the external SD card. For most users i think you can install more apps in a Z2 though. T2 Ultra has a smaller internal storage (about 4.8GB) and when you move an app to the SD-card you only move the app (APK-file). In my experience, it's usually not the apps (APK-files) that takes up alot of space. It's usually games and apps where the app (APK-file) is 50MB or less (you can't upload larger APK-files to Google Play). When you then start these apps/games for the first time the app itself will create a folder on either the internal storage or the external SD card to which it then downloads additional data. If you move data that belongs to an app it might not work properly or it may just redownload the files.
