micro SD card

Hi!

I just got X10 with Android. Unlike the blackberry that I used to own I cannot access the microSD card from my linux machine. It detects it but does not open it for file transfers. I replaced the microSD card with the one I had in Blackberry and the phone accepetd it and was able to find all the media files on it. However the linux desktop (Fedora 12) still could not access it. Note this is the same SD card that I used in BB and all the files there were transferred using this linux machine before. Is it something in SE X10 that is blocking this.

Please comment!!

Thank you.

Asif

I think that it could just be a driver problem.

Can you answer those question

  • Is the micro sd card recognized by the phone?
  • Is the micro sd card formatted?
  • Does your blackberry micro sd INTO your android phone is recognized
  • Download on the market this app: Ghost Commander and browse your phone to see if the card is functional
  • Download on the market this app: USB Switcher it show an usb icon on your top bar and accept to mount the storage

if you type in the shell?

fdisk -l

Can you see the drive?

My Xperia x10 is functional under Gentoo Linux

Once my micro sd is mounted i can browse it.

Hope it's help Slightly_smiling_Face

1. Yes the phone recognised the SD card. One came with the phone. I could browse that one (all directories empty as expected). The one from BB was also recognized upto the point that I was able to load mediascape and play music.

2. fdisk -l gives no output.

3. The other suggestions I will try by the end of today.

Thank you so much.

Okay I downloaded ghost commander and usb switcher pro. The ghost commander shows the SD card and the directories therein. The USB symbol appears on the top left when I connect to the computer. Still the fdisk -l is "empty". In Places -> Computer I see SEMC Mass Storage. I double click and nothing happens. In properties I get Location = computer:/// and Type = unknown type (application/octet-stream). Everything else is unknown.

I will digress a little bit. I am new to Android and the only reason I am giving up my BB is because Android is linux based and it would be fun to develop applications on that. Having read posts regarding no root access and strict policy I am begining to feel that I should return SE and get something else (may be HTC). Please let me know of your opinion now. I still have the opportunity to return. One of the most important app for me would be ConnectBot. I am hoping that it will work and I will be able to access a terminal and ssh to my home machine.

Thanks!

Sorry, i made a mistake. If your drive is not mounted fdisk -l wont sho it Slightly_frowning_Face

This is how i do (look at the image)

Step by step

  1. lsusb is a tool to display usb device connected
  2. ls -l /dev/sd* will show you every sata or memory storage
  3. just mont the drive somewhere i created a dir for mine /mnt/data/sd
  4. and mount the drive. you will probably have another drive mine is hdd1
  5. CAREFULL dismount the drive before disconect usb
  6. umount /mnt/dev/hdd1 or whatever
  7. Smile Slightly_smiling_Face

Note: If you want that drive to be monted automaticlly, just look at your distribution wiki or search Google

In my distro it's located under /etc/fstab

So as you can see there is nothing in the list that I can mount.

(Note I tried attaching another USB flash device and it mounted fine at /dev/sde1).

That's prety bad Slightly_frowning_Face

I found an app on the market name SwifFTP

It transform the cellphone in kind of ftp server

So when you are at home connected by WIFI, you can transfer file by WIFI

From there, i will check kernel module in your linux machine

Or if you know someont who use linux try to use the phone on their PC, if it work get his kernel configuration

Last option install windows (bad option)

Thank you

I think its the phone. I was able to use my daughter's window machine and windows can't mount it either. It does show an icon and the name in the hardware but does not open it with double click. Properties says 0 bytes and 0 bytes free. It does not matter which microSD I use.

I have checked the settings on the phone and the SD card is mounted. Are there any permission settings that I need to use on my phone?

Best Regards!

To be honest at this point:

"I don't have any F****** idea :("

Did you install pc companion on your daughter's window machine?

If you do, UPDATE your phone trought pc companion

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pccompanion/xperiax10?cc=ca&lc=en

For myself

At this point, I will return the phone to the service point and get another one!

This is sad, but the Xperia x10 is a good phone, maybe your was DOA (dead on arrival)

Good luck
