Messaging icon shows 1 unread message but there isn't any

I keep having this same occurence, where the mail icon on my screen shows an unread email, but I have no unread emails in my inbox. If I go into the email app, it shows one unread email against one of the account names, but there are no emails that have not been read.

Has anyone else had the same problem, or knows a solution to it? I seem to spend an age going up and down my emails trying to work out if I have missed one, or if it's just one of the many quirks this device has.

Try Settings - Apps and swipe to All then locate and open said Email app then tap on Force stop then Clear data and Clear cache then reboot and test

Settings > apps > all > email > clear data > restart the phone > check again. 

you can also remove > restart > re-add the email account.

Yeah, I was hesitant to remove the email account, as it's a pop3 account, which means I may(?) lose all the emails.

I think this is probably another one of the stock apps that I need to stop using. I might have a look at the Android Outlook app, I know and trust Outlook, so it might be a safe bet... although with Android apps, I'm not sure if a safe bet even exists.

@LeeC22 - You shouldn't loose the emails just by removing the account from the phone.
