Hey guys, new Xperia Z1 owner here and I've run into a problem.
I have come from using iphones for the past 4 years - the nature of iphones is that the text messages store in conversations like the Xperia. However I have all the conversations from when i first got my first iphone.
I used the PC companion to transfer my contacts and messages and stuff to my Xperia thinking nothing of it however the messsages app can be a little slow loading all the old conversations at times, so i tried to delete them, although I couldn't as the app froze. I tried deleting all the messages individually using "mark all" and deleting the whole conversations however the result is the same.
Is there any way to delete messages from the phone in an alternate way to this? Its quite annoying
Thanks
If there are a lot of messages it can be quite slow; however if you want to delete all of the messages you can always do this: Main Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Messaging > Clear Data.

I have also tried that method, but it doesn't actually delete the conversations
You could just delete all the conversations and/or repair your phone if that doesn't hurt

Alternatives on How to backup Xperias
open the messaging app > menu > delete conversations > drop down menu (left) mark all
I found this one actually working:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vp.smsmanager
it's a bit plain app, extremely simple, but for me it does the job, I have tons of messages too - it is useless if you want to use it for receiving messages, but works fair with deleting (didn't hang on me yet)
Just tried that app and it failed, just locked up the app almost instantly
How hard can deleting messages be? lol
It sounds like you have some corrupt data in the messaging application. I would recommend following the advice of Uliwooly above and run a repair.
