Message notification sounds

My Xperia Z1 will not change the mms message tone, the standard notification will change, however I have Set messages set with a different sound. No matter what sound I choose it will not change. I am using the standard stock messaging app, does anyone know what is causing this?

Let me try to understand, whenever you change the notification sound for the messaging app it doesn't change at all?

Exactly, it looks like it has changed though, but I get a message and its the old sound.

Settings-apps-all-media storage,clear defaults.

I've not set a default to open the notification alerts, tried it anyway, no joy.

What about clearing data for stock message app,followed by a force restart?(power button+vol up until the phone vibrates).Do backup your messages before.

How do you set the messaging notifiaction? 

messaging app > menu > settings > notification sound?

I set it is that exact way.

Alexdon - I'm backing up now, tried a reset first now joy, I'll see after a data reset, not hopeful though
