message notification problem

Updated my Arc to 2.3.4 OTA earlier today. All is fine apart from when having read a text message and then shortly after I go to unlock my phone, on the display it it is still telling me '1 message unread.' Can anyone advise me in what I can do from this happening as it is rather annoying.

you can do this, turn off your phone -> take the battery out SIM and SD card -> press and hold the power button for few seconds -> put everything back on and turn it back on

also you can backup everything and then do a factory reset or repair your phone with Update Service

also go to the messaging app -> press MENU -> settings -> uncheck notifications -> exit and do the same and check notifications.

How to install it

You need to

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

download IO File Manager

download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

SMS/MMS

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail

Iuse Handcent as my standard message app and have noticed that when I go into the stock message app and then exit out of it, when I go to unlock my phone after a short while the problem has gone. This never happened before the update.

well yes it sometimes happens..

you know what one time i got the notification in the locked screen "17 missed calls"

and i was like what the....then when i unlocked nothing

its just a bug which comes then goes

I was having the same issue and I did a reinstall of the software via Update Centre.  It essentially worked although it is happening intermitantly, but less annoying that it was.  With the re-install however I have had to re-download a lot of Apps and with it have to re-customize everything.

Hoping somebody can help with a notification settings I now have.  I am using Handcent for SMS and previously had everything set up nicely so I received a different notification tone for SMS as well as for Gmail.  I can no longer seem to figure out how to set this up again.

Initially I was getting the correct notification tone for SMS from Hancent, but also a doubled up notification (with notification tone for that) from what I assume is the core Arc settings.

This has now morphed into a double up of notifications but I only get the Arc notification tone.

Help please!

ok, open the messaging app, the one that came pre-installed with the phone > press MENU > Settings > uncheck notifications

also do this

settings -> privacy -> backup my data and automatic restore must be selected

and did you backed up everything like I suggested above? (it's easier to help you if either the thread doesn't have that many pages, so feel free to create new threads for new issues)
