Media GO not recognizing Xperia S

Since the last update (6.2.B.1.96), Media Go stopped recognizing my Xperia S, and it makes PC Companion to hang. So, I cannot make backups, nor syncs nor modify the media inside my phone. I can do nothing. It's not the first time I face this problem. I used to have this kind of issues with my Sony Ericsson W508 also. Is there any known issue?

Why don't you access the phone directly?

connect the phone to your computer > computer > Xperia S > internal storage

Don't forget to give Kudos

Because I manage my media with Media Go, and I expect Sony to make a software that works good, and not like this. Some times when I kill MediaGo or PCC processes, my phone is then recognized. So, it seems to be a software issue.

I've been trying this here but for me it works without any problems. As the problem started when you updated the phone, try making a repair of the phones software using PC Companion. If that doesn't help, also clear the internal storage from Settings -> Storage but remember to backup your files first.

This did not help. Same issue repeats. Media GO doesnot recognize and PC Companion hangs.

If you close PC Companion and Media Go and then connect the phone, can you see it and transfer files using Start -> Computer -> Xperia S -> Internal storage?

Could you also try your phone with another PC and see if the same thing happens there?

Good morning,

I have the same issue with Media Go and Sony Xperia S. Before the last update, I have some difficulties to connect Media Go and Xperia S. I close Media Go, then I plug Xperia S by USB. I open Windows Media player and synchronize some musics with the Xperia S. I close Windows media player and then I open Media Go. Media Go recognise the Xperia S and do the Job. Without using WMP I could not achieve to Media Go recognize Xperia S.

But after the update, Media Go does not want to connect my Xperia S. In fact, when the Xperia S is sleeping, Media Go identify a device and ask me to unlock it. Once I have unlocked the device, Media Go does not see Xperia S. When I take off the USB cable, Media Go recognise the Xperia S very quickly before seeing that the phone is deconnected.

When Media Go is close, Windows 7 display two windows for fast access. I could access to all data stored inside my phone.

When Media Go is close, the windows media player is able to manage my device (synchronizing music ect...)

When Media Go is close, Songbird 2.2.0, Build 2453 (20130204082828) could access and manage my Xperia S.

I do not think that reseting my phone could solve a problem of Media Go but if it is, I would have to reset always before connect to Media Go unless the problem is due to a non media content of my Xperia S.

I actually use Media Go to keep up to date my Xperia S with podcast, and Media Go is not the only logiciel to download podcast but has been the only that could manage my phone.

I also tried deleting all the content of the internal storage, but the problem is still there. On the other hand, I can use Winamp to synchronize music with my Xperia, without any issue. I'm pretty certain it has something to do with PC Companion and/or MediaGo. Let me be clearer on this point:

If I connect the phone to the PC, PCC shows up and recognizes it. I can also browse it from Windows Explorer without any problem.

As soon as I launch MediaGo, most of the times (let's say, 90% of the times), it does not recognizes the phone, and PCC hangs. So, I disconnect the phone from the PC, then PCC goes back to a normal state, so does MediaGo.

I close both applicationes (PCC and MediaGo).

I connect the phone back to the PC, then I open Winamp (without opening PCC nor MediaGo). I can synchronize my music perfectly well.

Again, if I launch MediaGo, it's very likely I will have the same issues. And sometimes, after a indetermined amount of minutes, MediaGo shows the phone.

At last, I could some times kill both applications whilst the phone was not being recognized (PCC not responding), and as if it were magic, MediaGo could see the phone again.

I don't know if, somehow, MediaGo or PCC is having an issue with MTP protocol or something, but it is not working as expected. And I kind of like MediaGo though!

I hope it is clear.

Good morning,

This morning, Media Go asked to be updated to 2.5a that I do. When reading the post of Eliote87 I have tried to wait to see If the phone is connected later.

I close Media Go. I unlock my Xperia S. I connect my Xperia S to my computer. PC Companion recognize the phone. Windows asked what to do and I answered "Transfer files with Media Go". Media Go opened without connecting the phone.

2 minutes later, the Xperia S is finally connected to Media Go.

I disconnect my phone from the computer and I let Media Go open. I unlock my phone. I connect my phone to my computer. PC Companion recognize the Xperia S after 10 seconds. Windows does not ask me what to do with the connected device (Media Go still running). Media Go does not recognize my Xperia S.

2 minutes 30 seconds later, the Xperia S is finally connected to Media Go.

I disconnect my phone from the computer and I let Media Go open. I open Windows Media Player. I unlock my phone. I connect my phone to my computer.  Media Go does not recognize my Xperia S.

7 seconds after connection, both Windows Media Player and PC Companion have connected my Xperia S.

2 minutes 30 seconds after connection, the Xperia S is finally connected to Media Go.

This means that our problem is solved or must be read as "Media GO not recognizing Xperia S below a fair time of connection around 20 seconds".

In addition, why Windows 7 does not ask me what to do with my device when Media GO is running ? Is it due to Media GO ?

Well, that's a good test. However, in my case, the time for Media Go to recognize my phone is absolutely random. In fact, I let the phone connected for more than 20 minutes some times and Media Go never recognized it, while Windows did. What I realized is that if I don't open Media Go or PCC while the phone is connected, I can use Winamp (just so say) without any problem.
