LT26i HDMI Reset bug

Hello!

I believe I found a bug in Xperia S Jelly Bean software (build 6.2.B.1.96). Basically when you have your phone connected to a CEC compilant device (a TV for example) and press Play button on the TV remote, the phone blacks out and reboots. I can confirm that LT26i is affected, however, the bug might be present on other Jelly Bean devices as well.

Hardware used:

  • Sony Xperia S
  • Sony HDMI cable
  • Samsung TV

Steps to reproduce the problem:

  1. Connect the phone to the TV using HDMI cable
  2. Wait for the TV Home/TV Launcher application to start
  3. Press the Play button on TV remote, the device should freeze, blackout and then reboot. (If it doesn't work try pressing some other buttons as well)

Unfortunately I am unable to provide logs.

As someone who uses its Xperia Acro S for watching Movies and mirroring to a TV almost daily I suggest to disable the TV Launcher app altogether...

Go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > look it up and hit disable.

This will allow you to mirror the phone exactly as you would normally use it.. and hitting "Home" with a CEC compatible TV would direct you to your Home Screen instead of the TV Launcher app..

I find that app completely unnecessary.

I know this is not the best solution, but since I have had it disabled since 4.0.4 up to 4.1.2, I can not confirm your bug (though I do have other bugs of my own, such as Sound from TV switching to Earphone suddenly and having to unplug HDMI and replug)

Well, I don't want to disable the TV Launcher, since it's easier to navigate and it's designed for TV controls. I do not want to mirror my screen, as the only reason I use HDMI is multimedia and games (YouTube mostly).

The bug is not really critical, but rather annoying.

Alright, I understand. In that case I will enable the app and try to reproduce your bug, however I do have a different TV (Sony) so the problem might be Samsung's CEC, in any case I will report back my experience.
