Learining client 2.1 wastes battery

Now I am satisfied with how my battery lasts (around 36 hours with the help of Juice Defender and Power Saver turned on)

however in power managment when I check what wastes the battery

something called Learning Client 2.1 wastes 25% of the battery, Waht is this and can I turne it off?

Well, if you don't count that the gps is linked to the learning client that is draining battery as a problem of course..... 😉

No, but seriously, a lot of people have, my personal opinion is that there is a certain number of phones with bad hardware, too many for Sony to be comfortable withreparing or changing, so they try to sort out the problem by trying to "fix" it software wise. That would explain why some people experience gps problems and some don't. Also, if it only where a software problem, everyone would have the gps issue. To top it some (the lucky ones) has had their hardware replaced and the gps issue gone. But since Sony totally keeps quiet about the whole matter I guess noone will ever know for sure.......

Shutting down unnecessary processes, including learning client, took off from the display "top contacts", turn off and on the phone. Now, I rarely used the GPS, however, learningclient  is no longer a freeze and no longer take more than 6% of battery I don't know what  all of it helped, but now i using the phone for 3-4 days without charging.

This has now been investigated for some time and with user feedback in mind it has been decided that the Learning Client will be removed in next software update. A way of doing this without impacting GPS performance has also been found.

that I'd rather have my battery lasts an hour less than loose the fast GPS fix.

Since I found out Learning Client 2.1 wasted 55% of my phone's battery, I've looked into what it is exactly and then how to remove it. As far as I can tell it's a tool that helps Sony (and probably Google) to provide them with customer info. So it's an app for spying, as far as I'm concerned. And personally, I dont't want that on my phone. Especially as it does nothing more then that, and worst of all, shortens my battery life with 55%!

So I looked into how to remove it. The only way is to root your phone and freeze the client with Titanium Backup (or other apps). I was a complete newbie to this and it took me a long time. So here's what I've learned:

- Find 'Root with Restore by Bin4ry'

- Install both Sony PC Companion and Update Service (to get the right drivers)

- Install the backup & restore app  (Xperia 2012), provided on the XDA site where you've found the Bin4ry tool (important!)

- Set you're phone to 'USB debugging' and 'Unknown sources'

- Follow the instructions

- Install Titanium Backup Pro

- Freeze Learning Client 2.1 (Don't back it up)

After I've done this, Learning Client 2.1 stopped eating my battery and my GPS runs immediatly and perfectly accurate both indoors and outside. I'll keep you informed of my battery life in a few days. But I expect it to almost double.

Don't wait for Sony updates!

Learning client is useless and harmful app that is need for Sony only. No other Android devices have this app. If Sony respects it's users it must kill off and forget the Learning Client.

So here are my findings after killing Learning Client: Battery is always good for over two days with slightly above average use (playing mp3's, extensive What's Apping, internet and using GPS a bit). The record is set on three days and a couple of hours. Befor it lasted somewhat 20 hours.

I have to say upgrading to Juice Defender Ultimate has got a hand in this too, but you need to root your phone for that as well. So I'd recommend my above instructions to anyone! You'll loose your guarantee but they'll always find something to get around it anyway... More important: I'm satisfied with my Xperia Go now!

Is there any information available, as to when this problem solving update is due to be released? At least in the ballpark of this month, this year, this century? I updated my Xperia go a week ago, right after purchase, but I knew that it was updates that still contained the problematic software.

However new update was available this week, according to PC companion, so I updated again. Nothing happened, as far as this problem goes. When GPS is started, the Learning client starts to sap the battery at an alarming rate. And worst of all, it does not stop even after GPS is disabled again, I have to kill it off manually via AVG antivirus. Basically same-old-same-old as discussed here ad nauseam.

I do not currently use the GPS too often, but it is annoyng nevertheless, and I intend to use GPS in the summer. If the problem solving update is not due in foreseeable future, I would like to know it in order to decide if loosing warranty due to rooting is worth it or not.

According to the Sony's attitude to users, the Sony will be the last option when I choose my new smartphone. And I'll never recommend Sony to anyone.
