Jelly Bean? Sony agreed to 18months updates after the release day, is Sony keeping their word?

in I/O 2011 Sony Ericsson agreed to update for AT LEAST 18 months their devices, the Xperia Arc was released April 2011 which means that it should receive updates up to October but how about the LT15a which was released later on 2011 does it mean that it will get updates until december more or less?

but the MOST important question is, Is Sony going to keep their promise to update their phones for AT LEAST (not up to) AT LEAST 18months as Sony agreed at I/O 2011 ?

they might be able to fix the bugs on this, just like Android 2.0 had a lot of bugs and 2.1 was released to fix all this, this could be the same all over again, who knows it might be a lot stable and easier for the 2011 Xperias to handle

We don't have yet a stable ics version and are you thinking about jelly bean? I have an xperia Ray and if they release a version of jelly bean like ICS, i will pass. I'm still with GB .62.

Well, even though Jelly Bean official updates are going to be later in future, Jelly Bean ports have been taking place in the developers' world. Like in case of xperia ARC S, one of the developers' have tested jelly bean boot animation.http://www.androidust.com/experience-jelly-bean-on-arc-s-via-boot-animation/

These are all custom made things.

I'm  pretty certain that the 4.1 JB update would be hitting the 2011 devices soon enough. The question of Sony not releasing the update for these devices doesn't arise.

What makes me so confident -

  • Contrary to the belief, the 4.1 update is not a major update, it's just an incremental update (if you will) of 4.0.4. Although v-sync & Google Now are pretty awesome, IMO, they're not something that the 2011 devices can't handle.
  • Since the 18 month deal was public, I don't think Sony will go back on it's word, especially when these devices can very well run 4.1.
  • There is the Notification LED issue still to be resolved on the 2011 devices running on 4.0.4. In any other situation, Sony would have at least responded to the problem. But, IMO, Sony's silence is indicative of an update coming soon, which may reslove the issues of 4.0.4. Sony must have been waiting for Google to officially announce 4.1 at the 2012 I/O.
  • Sony damaged its reputation enough by ending it's updates to its then flagship device Xperia X10. The last thing it needs now is to be in an almost similar situation.

Don't worry, guys. I'm pretty certain that the announcement will be made pretty soon.

All we can do is wait for the official announcement & hope for the best. Winking_Face

I guess 2012 versions would get it officially. For the rest custom made developments would come up. What developers are doing now is making ROMs and themes based on Jelly Bean. One such info is here:http://www.androidust.com/enjoy-jelly-bean-sony-xperia-theme/
