Is it worth upgrading from Z2 to Z5?

Hello,

I've had my Z2 for about a year and three months. I've had a lot of problems with battery drain since Lollipop and now my headphone jack has stopped working. I'm considering upgrading to the Z5 as my one last shot with Sony – because of the storage, design, battery and micro-SD support – but I'd like to know from Z5 users whether it's worth it. Are there any problems cropping up with the handset?

@mrmetacrisis

The Z5 and Z5 premium are great phones, if you prefer something thin and light go with the Z5, if you want a 4K screen a phone a bit more studier then go with the premium.

Obviously I may be a bit biased; but I have used both the Z2 and the Z5 and I feel that the Z5 is a great upgrade in all respects from the Z2; specifically in regards to the camera, design and operating performance.

I have come over to Sony from the Samsung camp.

So far the experience is ... intresting. In this forum you should be able to find all the issues that various owners have complained about. Sony has been good enough to advise that the upgrade to Marshmallow will resolve most of the issues, if not all.

The main reasons I chose to convert, was the SD card support and the "better" camera. From my impressions, it was meant to be better than the iPhone camera. I am somewhat satisfied with the camera, but not blown away.

There are a few little nuiances that you need to be aware of. Like the USB port will only detect external devices when you tell it to detect it. Yes there is good reason for this, but I am currently having an issue with my DAC for listening to music. It is not detecting a batteryless DAC.

Chromecast that is built in does not play continuously once the phone locks. When trying to play local videos after the screen timeout, the video audio continuous, but I get a grey screen with a lock icon. No getting around this. very annoying.

Also the camera I think will shoot in 8MP by default until you change the setting. Obviously not a deal breaker, but things to be aware of that are not configured out of the box.

To conclude, do I think this is a great phone? Yes I think so. It is currently "satisfacory", but I am not overly impressed away at this point, and this is disappointing considering the price the Z5 Premium commands. Hopefully the Marshmallow update will smooth a lot of the bumps out.

......or, if you don't want all the Z5 issues we are enduring, especially the White version of the Z5c, just upgrade to the Z3 and wait it out for Sony to get their act together in regards to the Z5.

Sometimes I wish I just stuck with my old Z3c and saved myself a bundle of cash.

Took me a while typing this, due to my white Z5c catching up after the lag and double typing !!!!!!!!!!!

If I don't see a noticeable change very soon, I'll be ditching this, especially if the new Android Nokia is any good when it comes out later this year.

Jeepers... That sounds like a bit of a nightmare. I thought about the Z3 or Z3+, but they both have those annoying flaps / doors over the charging port, right?

So what's so bad about the Z5C? Is it lagging constantly? What makes the white one worse?

@mrmetacrisis as far as I know, only the white version of the Z5C have the touchscreen and voice echo issue.

A trick.

On the Z3 series you could easily overcome the problem with this cable which connects the charger to the docking contacts: http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00H2EEB4S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

I have a Z3 compact and it works pretty well.

I use SMB protocol in order to transfer data files and I rarely have to rely on USB.

I would like to buy the black Z5c for my wife. Does it shows weird behaviors?
