Insomnia (phone will not sleep and cannot be switched off)

I have had problems after trying out the Z2 mag charging dock, my phone keeps waking the screen when it is being charged (the screen timeouts and turns off before being turned back on again after a few seconds, showing the lock screen), even after i switch back to the standard USB charging cable (charging directly to the microusb port). I have checked developer options and keep screen awake when charging is not ticked so that's not the problem.

Additionally, my phone is not able to be switched off. When i switch off, it will enter into a sort of bootloop where the phone will spontaneously turn itself on showing 'Sony' screen > black screen and it repeats this cycle. The phone can however be turned back on during this bootloop if i i press and hold the power button while the screen is black.

I have scanned the phone using various reputable antivirus apps and none of them have turned up anything. Did a factory reset but it didn't solve either problem.

Appreciate any help I can get.

Try settings-apps-all-smart connect,clear data.Restart.See if the same occurs.To shutdown(power button+vol up until the phone vibrates 3 times).

Thank you! This worked. However i have not been able to get my hands on a magnetic dock again to try and see if the problem will resurface. Something i noticed: the last time i connected to a magnetic dock i was prompted to choose between Daydream and 'Screen off and lock' as the default. Do you think that may have been the cause?

I think that you selected day dream when prompted.You should check this when you have the oportunity.

bad news.. i've been charging my phone after getting home from work today and it just passed 90% when the problem resurfaced again. now the screen keeps coming back on... tried clearing smart connect data but it doesnt solve the problem...

edit: regarding daydream and screen lock and off (3rd party app), i have had the opportunity of making the prompt appear again after factory resetting my phone yesterday and this time i chose screen lock and off --  didn't solve the problem either.

I just repaired my software and it didn't seem to have worked... the bootloop started happening again right after i pulled the usb out from my laptop without even touching any buttons.

Hi, I know its been a while since you posted this issue, but was wondering if you have got it solved and if yes how you did it.

I have run into excactly the same problem yesterday after accidentaly connecting magnetic charging cable the wrong way.

The phone went instantly dead (battery discharge), after that Red Light came on and starting blinking when on wall charger.

I left it on charger for 4 hours and was able to get it restarted. Now whenever I put it on charger the screen will not sleep. It will dim and turn off but straight away turn on again. I have run PC Companion twice to repair but it is still doing the same thing over and over again. I also have the issue that I cant switch it off as it will go into a Sony Logo Bootloop. I have to force shut down and then I can charge it without problem. Once I remove phone from charger it will go into Sony Logo Bootloop again until switched on.

Any ideas??

Hi Kraemer, I did get it fixed. Turns out that my motherboard was damaged. You could have shorted the motherboard by connecting the magnetic port in reverse. Not sure why my motherboard was fried though, as I didn't connect it the wrong way. A visit to the service centre with two fingers crossed would be your best bet now.
