INFURIATING jumping cursor during text editing as ANCIENT bug is STILL present 3 years on

Hello,

I have just purchased a new Z1 Compact, thinking that all the bugs present from the old software on my Xperia Pro must have been ironed out by now in the newer models. Well, I was wrong. The single most INFURIATING bug that I had on my Xperia Pro in 2011 is present even in a phone just released in 2014.

The bug I am referring to is one whereby text editing of large blocks of text randomly becomes impossible as the cursor will start to jump to another random off-screen position in the block of text while you are in mid-sentence, meaning you just can't add any more text without wanting to throw your phone across the room in a fit of absoute rage. The most recent time this happened to me was when I was using Chrome to edit some text in a vBulletin message board.

My posts from 2011 on this exact same issue are as follows:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-pro-Xperia-neo-V-Xperia/Can-t-place-cursor-to-desired-position-...

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Software-Updates/587-buggy-text-editing/td-p/241046

Now, I do not know whether this is a Google problem or whether it is a problem caused by Sony customising the appearance of the cursor or keyboard. However, I haven't noticed it on my 2012 Asus Nexus 7 tablet. Whomever is responsible for the problem though is irrelevant as a problem this infuriating that has lasted this long is just absolutely ridiculous. Please just SORT THIS THE **bleep** OUT Sony. An acknowledgement on the source of the issue would be a start. If it is a Google problem (as there is a good chance), I will kindly direct my rage in their direction Grinning_Face

OK... I have calmed down a bit now. I just realised I was using SwiftKey instead of the Xperia International keyboard. I toggled back to the Xperia keyboard and the problem went away for the post I was writing for now.

That said, I have not had problems with SwiftKey elsewhere, and on my Xperia Pro where I had this same problem I was only using the Xperia Keyboard.

Anyway, I will exclusively use the Xperia Keyboard for a while and report whether it happens again...

Infuriating is right.  I have this problem on the ASUS Q200 notebook with Windows 8 in Evernote, Chrome, Firefox and even Editpad and Open Office.  It's not entirely random -- the cursor usually jumps to one of three places:  the beginning of the file, a few lines before where I'm typing, or just disappearing, as if I'd clicked outside the text editing box.

From what I've seen searching this subject, it occurs on nearly every brand of laptop and notebook.  I think there must be a bunch of lazy coders out there, borrowing code that has this bug.
