Infinite loop booting

Hello,

I bought my Xperia ion two days ago. I will describe the events I consider relevant chronologically.

1. It came with Android 4.0, ICS, and I updated it to the last version (4.0.4), since when I plugged it in my computer, there was an update.

2. Yesterday, it suddenly turned off, when it had 93-95% of battery, and rebooted by itself, entering in an infinite loop in the XPERIA screen. After trying to switch it on (pressing power button + volume up button) some times, it worked and went through the main screen.

3. Today, it did the same, with 32-35% of battery, but it worked faster than yesterday when trying to switch on (only two infinite loops).

4. Worried about this issue, I got in touch with an agent in the Support Chat, who told me to follow these steps to restore the phone: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/364400#364400

5. I did those steps, but it didn't work. The first time the phone was restored it turned on, but turning it off and trying to switch it on I have the same problem. So now it is impossible to turn it on, basically.

Also I tried to hold power + up volume buttons and wait for the three vibrations, but it's the same.

I would like to know if this is a faulty phone or it is a problem of the last Android update, and if there are any possible solutions.

Thank you for your attention

This does sound like a software issue, however given that you have already tried to run an update/repair I can only advise that you return the phone for assessment by an authorised repair agent.
