My contacts admittedly are a complete mess, caused by having old phones in the past and bandaid solutions to transfer them either after crashes or new phones.
When I bought my Z3 1 1/2 yrs ago, the Sony store guy totally made a mess of them by not asking me where my contacts where and transfered an old unsynced gmail file. After that a few Sony and IT people tried to fix it and found my more recent contacts but now but my contacts are so messy with old contacts from 10years ago that I feel like deleting it and starting afresh! Anyway, I only give this back storey as it might have caused my below problem....
Can someone please explain one issue I have:
On some contacts, I can find them normally through contacts and the contact can be editted or if you click the 3 dots it can be shared, deleted etc (6 options listed). But when they phone me, the incming call name is different than their contact card. ie my sister in law calls me and the name shows her married name which is not on her contact card now (awkward since she has since divorced!)
if I click "view contact" it will not show me their current contact card. It will show me some of their numbers but not whatsapp, there is no option to edit and clicking the the 3 dots only gives option to share and Help.
Any thoughts?
Hey @Marxxv,
It sounds like the contact has been synchronized from an Online service and the contact photo is attached to that specific sync. If I understood you correctly, when you go to Phone > Press and hold on their number in the call log > View contact, your are not presented with options for editing that specific contact? Does it say where it is synced from?
My recommendation is that you find which Online service it is synced to and disable contact syncing for that service or edit the specific contact from there. It could also be the case that you've imported the same number multiple times and therefore creating multiple contacts with the same contact information.
Did you try linking contacts? Go to Contacts > Menu (3 dots in the top right) > Find link candidates, does that help?
Thank you for your response.
No- when I view that incoming call contact, it does not tell me where it is from and does not allow editing (editing option does not appear when the three dots are clicked.)
I just checked the contacts that I have on gmail (which I don't actively use - but had transfered contacts there at some point for a back up- so info is very old). The card for my sister in law is the same as what is showing up with her phone calls with her old married name and the same numbers.
On my phone, When I look at the accounts I use through settings, all syncs are turned off for google though.
So when that Sony guy transfered my old gmail contacts did they get saved somewhere deep on the phone?!? It would be great if I could delete that reference since i have all the contacts through their contact cards
Perplexed....
If you delete the Google account for testing purposes, do you still get the incorrect contact photo? What happens if you then add it anew?
